Not pleased about this one. Has been terrible since leaving Bristol. He'll be on the next conveyor belt of deadwood within a month.

Another try before you buy type deal. There’s a few of those in the last few days.

he's never had anyway near the talent that Reid had.

It's fine as a 6 month deal. Not sure why we'd sign him and Lolley though. Seems like overkill.

Having played for him at Middlesbrough, AK obviously thinks he can provide the guile we're clearly missing.

The other good thing about that is when a player has shared a good connection with a manager, it can’t be underestimated how special that bond can be as a two way thing in getting the best out of each other.

That’ll cheer up Karanka and it might rub off on the others.

Simple, seemingly insignificant things that people might overlook, that can have a big impact.

Having seen a lot of Tomlin at Peterborough, he’s definitely a ‘marmite’ player...not in reference to his eating habits. He has skill, guile and creativity as some have pointed out already, but he also has a bit of Jamie Ward about him, winding opposition players up and being a bit of a niggly ****.

Dear god, that guy is really fat. Reminds me of a striker a Greek rival brought in once; he was so fat that the rumour is that they locked him in a hotel and forced him on a strict diet for two weeks before presenting him to the press.

I think Karanka has brought in a few more than originally intended due to the Preston performance.

I bet Tomlin is as a result of a few players like Carayol, Clough, Walker and Ward asking for more game time. Based on his "if they don't want to be here maybe they can go" comments after the game.

If you look on twitter, the Cardiff fans seem disappointed by this swap.

If there are two teams I desperately don't want to get promoted, it's Cardiff and Derby. So I hope Ward fucks things up.
