Was a prominent player under Karanka at Boro and was absolute class at times. So that gives me a good feeling about this deal.

Look at his speed of thought and how he takes on players like Lolley and Dowell do. Positive minded players in midfield with that 'out of nothing' ability.

Granted it was a couple of years ago, But Lee Tomlin came to our place for Bristol City & put on something of a masterclass.

The Reid references came out that day, rightly so in my opinion, he was fucking top drawer on the day. Broke from deep, moved the ball quickly at angles we could only have dreamt of over the last few years.

    Really excited by this one.

He might look tubby, but he's actually got a quick turn of pace. He's very deceiving.

And it's his speed of mind that matches his footwork which is the most impressive thing for me.

Reidy was overweight but it didn't matter as all it took was that one second of genius to pick out the perfect pass.

If he can get himself in the right positions at the right time (which by all accounts he can) then he'll score.

He’s the kind of player you want in those games were a parked bus defence needs to be bypassed.

I fucking love players like this. If they weren't so sharp up top they'd be playing for the Dog and Duck, but they are, they see a bigger picture and they see it before most of the other players on the pitch do.

The kind of playmaker who can unlock a Defence with one pass, and who we have not really had in the squad since Reidy broke down.

Brereton, Vellios and Murphy will be salivating after the midfield we signed yesterday.

    Really good reading, that interview:

The intensity and quality of Karanka's training sessions, something the Spaniard developed a reputation for during his three-and-a-half years in charge, impressed Tomlin.

But it wasn't just Karanka's on-field methods that, he believes, helped him play some of the best football of his career.

"My biggest criticism throughout my career has been people accusing me of being 'unfit' - but Karanka never once said that to me," Tomlin said.

"His message was always, 'If you play well, you'll stay in the team'. His methods in training and matches were brilliant.

"You get some managers and the first thing they say after a defeat is 'your body fat mass is wrong' or 'you need to get fitter'. But Karanka treated us all like adults, and the dressing room respected him for that.

"Karanka was always fair on the training ground. When you trained, you trained hard - and there was no messing about. But in the changing room, training had finished - so you can do what you want.

"Some clubs don't let you have phones in the canteen or in the building, there's rule after rule. But it wasn't like that at Boro - that's one of the best things about Karanka. He treated you like a grown-up."

Interesting article about Tomlin from December.

In summary he hasn’t been playing as Warnock hasn’t wanted to change a winning team which makes sense. Having trouble working on his fitness. But in the few games when he’s come on he has impressed and Cardiff fans like him. Certainly feels like an upgrade on Ward if Karanka can succeed where Warnicks failed and gets him fit.

I would rather have Tomlin than Ward so it's a yes from me!

I like players who can do things with the ball, and this lad can.
I think you need a few workhorses around such a player and imo we have now got some.
I never thought the wide left position suited Zach Clough. But looks natural to Tomlin.

Karanka pretty much echoed this in his presser, said Tomlin is misunderstood and that he knew how to manage him to get the best from him.

Reminds me of a certain former great Manager of Forest, and his relationship with another tubby winger, forty odd years ago.

Some Cardiff fans are not very happy about the swap: https://twitter.com/bryson_hoover/st...42565725511685

(and may I note that Tomlin's and Darikwa's topics are still on the transfer forum?)

Used to watch Tomlin play for Rushden & Diamonds (my 2nd team before they went belly up). Looking forward to seeing him play again, reckon he can do a job for us.

That was my first thought when I was fishing in my mind for his first name!

Times I've seen him, not that much I admit, he's been pretty tricky and looks a footballer despite comments about his weight, so I wait with interest to see how he gets on at the CG.

As it is with all of them Getting him in his only half the job.
Let’s for once get something close to their full potential out of the latest batch of transfers.
