It seems a bit of a weird decision from the English powers that be to have the window close with no loan window before the prem teams finalise their squads.
Surely there must now be a lot of players similar to Colback who are good players but not quite good enough for the 25 man squad limit. In past years they would have gone out on loan to championship clubs but now their options are much more limited to a loan abroad or L1 which surely most won't want to drop down to?

Does anybody know why the additional week or so loan window was done away with this year?

Apparently it was driven by the Championship clubs wanting to align themselves with the Best League In The World ().

Fair enough, thanks. You'd think they would want the option to pick off the best of the players who didn't make the cut so it's a bit odd.

Caught me by surprise that one. I thought there was a 2 week window for exactly that reason.
I think a lot of Championship clubs have missed out as a result.

Bouchalakis original appeal was he wasn't David Vaughn. Decent technically, but slow as fuck & weak as piss. he might be £5m worth of player in the continental leagues, but not here.

Of all the Oly players Bouchalakis was always the best one (although you would argue he was also the only one that got any game time).

In the games I have seen recently he has turned into a really good player and playing in a team that suits him.

People overegg him not being good enough, I thought he was always good enough - we just didn't play around his lack of pace. Our best performances that season almost all included him at the heart of it.

Booch could have grown in to a good player here, but the owner doesn't give anyone time to develop said players, so he wouldn't.

In any case, his time at Nottingham did him good, he returned a more consistent player. He's not a fan favourite over here, but it cannot be an accident that five managers not only wanted him on the team but gave him more playing time than much more expensive players.

And the Italians love a midfielder who's good at providing support in the passing game.

Six months in the sun and Champions League group stages at your place and then a return to where he's made his home in Nottingham? Could work out well for everyone, if the alternative for Colback currently is six months of U23s football or a loan to League One.

Most sources place his weekly wage at around £35,000 though some suggest it's higher.

I doubt Colback would make the matchday 18 under SL.
    Small, limited and OTT wages!

He's not even on the bench for Newcastle's second-string in the League Cup.

I’m hoping Jack will negotiate his release from the Geordies and come here on a free. Watson is doing well so far, but Colback is far better.

Is Colback good enough to keep us in the Prem next year though?

    Re-writing history there.

There is a reason he was POTS runner up last year as a defensive midfielder!

The rest of the squad weren't that great.
