Questions have to be asked about how we choose to spend our money.
I'd guess that the people who make those spending decisions didn't expect Carvalho to be targeted by an attention-seeking pub-team clogger in the early stages of the very first pre-season game Alf, significantly curtailing the player's match-fitness-building process at arguably the worst time in the pre-season programme.

Furthermore, I've serious doubts they anticipated Jenkinson incurring a serious injury during a match-intensity training game.

I'm happy to accept your word for it with that figure, in which case, £1.8m for central-defencive cover in the Championship isn't excessive. Figs is essentially cover in that position. I also suspect that you're probably finding the Soudani-bashing a little tiresome now.

Soudani was another acquisition who incurred a nasty long term injury after only a handful of games.
In the games I saw him play I thought he looked lively and without the injury I think he would still be here, and a regular and popular squad member.

Carva wasn't a 13m player last season even when he was fit mate, Jenks has a injury history, Soudani I've said my bit on, and Figs just seems a bit overpriced for us at 1.8m for a cover option.

Surely you can see why there's queries raised about how we've spent 20m there? I'm not just picking on signings for the sake of it. Grabban, IMO, has been an excellent but even at 6m.

Whether Carvalho played like a £13m player or not last season is totally irrelevant Alf. How do you know he wouldn't have hit-the-ground-running in August had it not been for that fucking dragarse at Alfreton?

As for the others, it's hard not to conclude that you're simply having a pop for the sake of it.

    We should have kept Soudani.

I agree Ravi, although I suspect the opportunity to play Champions League football was a significant pull for him.

Much better than in previous matches, in my opinion. His passing was not world class, but a decent performance overall.

Think Mouch is playing it right alternating between him & Rodders. Makes sure both are up to speed, and gives him different options against different opposition.

Thought Figueredo was decent, probably the best game Ive seen from him.

Worralls probably the first name down, but the situation re' his partner has been clouded even further with Toby starting to fire. Good problem to have, we're blessed at CB.

Ah, the days when we had to pick the least-bad pairing, rather than having so many good options.

I just caught this week's edition of Teamtalk, only to hear Charlie McParland (during a discussion about Joe Worrall) doing a proper hatchet job on Figs' performance in the defeat to Hull, whilst blissfully ignorant of the fact that the lad didn't play that night.

He was wank in the home game against Reading too.

To be fair nobody stood out that afternoon. It was a bit of a damp squib of an afternoon all told.

Is it fair to say he's back to his best after a run of games in the side?

We really do have some quality centre backs at the club.

2 decent games back to back, it's almost as if some players need a run of games to get back in to the swing of things. More than serviceable 3rd choice CB along with Chema. We are well stocked in that position.

Definitely showing his worth with a run of games.

CB is that sort of position though and some find it easier to come in from the cold than others.

In many ways he probably deserves to hold on to the shirt if it wasn't the club captain returning.

It's just how long until he gets injured again though

Mouch is playing it right IMO - rotate with Rodders as he see's fit until Daws is back. That way keeps him in touch without over-relying on him too.
