According to the Greek press, Panathinaikos asks for a bit more than the 300K (euros) you're offering. It's a time-sensitive poker game, for all three sides involved: next Monday there's the court decision on whether the player has the right to leave for free or not; if the player wins, his agent will try to have him signed elsewhere, as a free agent, in order to earn more commission; if the club wins, they will be entitled to ask for more.

If I were Vrentzos I would raise to 500k now.

Panathinaikos apparently don't want to sell him to us due to our owner's connections to Olympiacos.

Yet another new and original way for one of our transfers to collapse?

File along side riots, suspect ophthalmology and DOA goalkeepers.

The Verhoek tranafer still angers me, because of him we got Miller. Surely we have grounds to sue him....

Don’t believe this for one moment. They just want more money.

Anterlecht are the only other club who have made an offer for Hult, and they offer slightly less than you do. Panathinaikos have given them till tomorrow to raise their bid. I'm pretty sure that whatever happens will happen before the court's decision on Monday.

    Anderlecht eh?

We’ve got history with those bastards. Anything that gets one over on them is alright in my book.

This doesn’t really add up, £300k for an international LB. where’s the catch?

I thought we were after quality and Championship experience? This feels like another Lica/Gomis/Perquis/insert many of the players Forest have signed in recent years here.

So has almost every other country in the world(bar most in Asia). Not knocking Sweden down but The Fulham goalkeeper is also an international......for the Philippines. That fact wouldn’t make him more expensive or any better, just another reason to worry about him getting injured really.

The more important fact is hults team can’t negotiate, they NEED the money desperately.

Have you seen him play, or is this just going to happen everytime we sign a foreigner?

Whereas Pinillos and Jokic were both very shrewd signings.

What has it got to do with him being a foreigner? Or are you just going to snipe every time someone questions a signing?

One of the reasons Warburton was allegedly removed was that the club wanted to sign quality, experienced Championship players to bolster an inexperienced squad. Bringing in a player with no experience of this level, with a mediocre track record, who is playing in a weak league seems at odds with that.

So were Lars Bohinen and Stan Collymore - not sure of your point here.

Pinnilos was young and came with a reputation for being extremely talented, but injury had hampered him.

Jokic was a massively experienced player who had experience in some of the best leagues in the world, as well as being a regular in his national side.

When both were signed it wasn't with the idea that we needed an instant injection of championship quality to get us up the table. This guy is 28, coming from a weak league, has no experience of the championship and doesn't appear to have much to him that puts him above Traore.

    Think thats a fair shout.

Maybe Karankas inspired more confidence & there prepared to back his judgement

Conversely he has to earn the right to the sizeable transfer kitty & we're plugging an obvious problem area with a short term fix.

It does have a Thomas Lam look to it in that he aint got any Champs experience & it could well go either way.

Aye, it could go either way but our track record with a large amount of signings over the last two seasons has been for them to go the wrong way. Even obviously talented players like Bouchalakis have shown how tough it is to settle into the Championship after being used to the Greek league.

If Karanka thinks he's the right man then by all means go for him and I hope he is a success. But seeing as he's another player based in Greece I assume it's a player who has been identified and recommended by our board rather than someone Karanka has scouted and is aware of. Could be completely wrong, but that's my theory.

Still all speculation... delete 'championship' from your claim and that story still fits the rumours. There was no citable claim to a specific league, was focused on experience.

It's good to have a theory tho, can use it to make a tool to beat the owners with at a later date

Well, since I'm one of the few people here who have seen both, I can assure you that he is better than Traoré. He may not have Traoré's flare in one on one dribbling when going forward, but he certainly does not share Traoré's defensive blackouts, he has a much better cross, his passing is more accurate, and his overall defensive performance is more reliable.
