    Default The FA Cup Thread

    Anyone expecting any upsets today?

Wolves and Coventry being tipped to beat Premiership opposition.

I'm listening to Fleetwood v Festa, fairly even up to yet. Cod Army!

    Boro 1-0 up against Sunderland.

Think yourself lucky. I'm watching it and so far it's a bit like a Gary Brazil side against...well virtually anyone.

Fleetwood are actually playing really well, pressing Leicester high up the pitch and not allowing them to play. If we take the same approach tomorrow I'll be happy, have a go at em!!

Had a 4 fold accy on Fleetwood, Wolves, Bristol City and Fulham at 250/1.

Been impressed with Fleetwood, especially Schwabl.

Hoping that we can be the ones to upset the form book.

Regardless of all the chaos that the club has reverted to, odd circumstances allow odd results to flourish.

Preying we hit a perfect storm and a cup upset leads us on to a great run which sees us to safety, so the new manager has time to breath and rebuild (again) for next year's manager.

“All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.”

The shaggers lost last night, so that's the Cup over and done with in my part of the world. At least we've lasted slightly longer in it than them.

    Well earned draw for Fleetwood.
Don't think Festa had one attempt on goal.

I just hope we go into the game with a positive attitude and have a proper go, don't want to see us park the bus and hope for the best!

3rd round day used to be the best football day of the year until the money grabbing wankers ruined it, I hope Bournemouth enjoy the replay at Wigan after their players got a much deserved rest

Little credit in the media for Notts and Mansfield, who both did very well.

I dunno, modern football is garbage, Radio 5 creaming over the prospect of the Chelsea game, Twitter full of Coutino bollocks, what about Cov beating Stoke?
Maybe it's me but I don't give a fuck about the Prem teams, transfers to Barca and all that.
Little interest in this thread and competition as well, sad times.

Sad to see how the FA Cup has ended up. During the 1980’s our league status was usually pretty set by Christmas so the FA Cup used to kick start the interest and was eagerly awaited. Not to forget we also had the league cup but the less said about that the better.

The beginning of the end was when Man Utd didn’t have to enter because of sone tournament elsewhere.

It's fucking wank innit. Cant even muster any decent interest against the Gunners today

Are Arsenal still called the Gunners btw?

I think so Ray, having not paid much interest to the premiership clubs for years I couldn't tell you for sure.

Looking on the Arsenal forums said it all, all they seem to talk about is transfer fees, foreign players and the champions league. Little mention of this game today.

I like how the final kicks off at 17.30 for no reason other than money, bollocks to the fans from up North who can’t get the last train home

Curious how every interview with a manager around this time seems to mention how they all love the Cup and look forward to the third round.

Then it all goes off like a damp squib.

Maybe it's my age and team but I've never liked the FA Cup, or the League Cup.

    I’m similar, Samuel.

When was the last time we had a good cup run?

I think 'odd' is a good thing. Oddness shows originality, uniqueness and a desire to be different from the masses. Oddness is, maybe, only deemed 'odd' by the majority who are considered less odd but only by their own blinkered observations and understanding. Oddness should never be criticised but be encouraged to nurture, develop individualism and to explore the mind rather than conform to expectation and 'normality'. Many of the world's greatest works of art and prose were born from those minds many considered to be 'odd'.

I wonder if in 20 the game will be played on a league table of profit margins?

For some clubs I'd say it already is unofficiaclly, and we're playing one today.

They're definitely de-valued in the modern game because of all the 2nd string teams which get fielded.

For that reason I agree, and even today feels like more of an opportunity to see some real quality players who aren't in their first team but would walk int ours from Arsenal than owt else.

    Personally I'd like to see:

    * The "Top 6" big money Prem clubs fucked off to Europe
    * A sensible wage capped introduced into the British game (20k/wk max)
    * The prize money distributed between final leagie positions & cup runs/wins balanced out far more, so that the cup runs are just as profotable, and teams getting relegated would still find it worth progressing in the cup (and whatever other measures need making to encourage as strong a line ups as possible)
