Thread: What's an acceptable point total for the season?

  1. #1

Default What's an acceptable point total for the season?

    From the NEP......

"Of his 37 games in charge, Warburton won 15, lost 19, collecting 48 points in the process having earned the goodwill of the supporters when he guided the Reds to safety last season."

    Over a season that's 59/60pts

So what should be viewed as an acceptable points total now? Regardless of what issues there were with Warbs, surely we haven't forked out millions in payoffs just to tread water?

“All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.”

I put a bet on at the start of the season where I bought Forest points at 60, for £100 a point.

Basically every point higher than 60 I win £100, for every point lower than 60 I owe £100.

So to answer your question, 70 points is the minimum needed this season.

Whatever points total means we retain our Championship status

Surely we should be beyond that now though? The complaints levelled at Warbs were all very much ones which were be bemoaning a mid table team not being top 6, even his transfer policy.

If Warbs was on course to make 60pts, surely 50pts should be unacceptable, even if we stay up?

I always said Warbs keeping us up was the minimum, and for me that hasn't changed. I didn't want him sacked and I don't want his successor sacked if we aren't on a safe 60 points come April.

I don't think its a case of falling over ourselves to justify Warburtons sacking, more a concession that its not as scandalous as some make out.

The new bloke will need time to reassess, he'll also inherit a fairly blank canvass given the incoherent nature of our play & he'll likely do some work in the transfer market.

With this in mind, I wouldn't expect him to do much more than tread water, but probably with more consistency of results, how that translates into points is anyones guess. You cant say with any certainty MW was bound for 60 points either, we were in the process of going backwards.

This could still be a change with the long term in mind.

Well as we know, the Jan transfer window is notoriously difficult to work in, so do we even count it as an acceptable opportunity for the new bloke because, based on our history, it'll be the only one he'll likely get.

Being safe by Easter is a good plan.

Enough points to be safe, but a low enough total to lower the new hierarchy's expectations.

Fuck me you were banging this drum for about two years after Pearce was sacked. Please tell me it's not gonna happen again!

Over 2 points per game on average from here on in to get us to 80 points.

    This as a minimum.

Never really looked at it in terms of points to be honest.
I'm more interested in seeing gradual improvement and a cohesive team that fight to the 90th minute. Which in turn will get points.

Would it be fair to say that if ater 37 games he's got 48pts from them then he's underachieved and should go?

I put that out to all poster as I'm genuinely curious, and want some sort of yardstick to measure satisfaction by.

Surely fans have to be realistic and satisfied with less than promotion? And if that's the case where's the marker?

    It's going to happen again.

At least until we finish above 12th.

The marker is within the performances for a lot of people Alf.

I don't know anyone that says "hey, I hope we get 73 points this season" in August.

I'd go along with enough points to safely guarantee championship status. If god forbid we didn't get enough I dread to think of the implosion that would occur amongst the fan base.

True. What would you expect performance wise to make the change worth while mate?
