The average amount of points required to get into the play offs based on the last 10 seasons is 73.6.

We're currently on 32 points, 43.6 off the typical average.

With 20 games to go there's a maximum of 60 points to play for.

To only drop 16.4 points between now and May would be some heck of a comeback.

So automatic promotion form - 2 points per game - for the rest of the season would possibly just about see us scraping into play offs on 72 points?

I think we're all safe to book holidays during the play offs.

    Some talk wbout playoffs now.

So what points total would folk be happy with now?

55 still. Enough to avoid the drop. Get there as soon as possible and spend all efforts preparing for next season. Blood even more youngsters back end of this season like Edser, Appiah, Anel and start planning transfer business for Summer now.

Honestly not bothered about picking up any signings in this window. We can wait until Summer when we're not pressured into anything.

I don't care how many points we get. Setting targets is just daft.

I just hope we try to keep moving and keeping the ball, but playing with more accountability and responsibility than we had been doing. Keep it simple, move the ball, work down channels and pull it across the box.

If we do that we'll be absolutely fine and i'll be delighted. The points will take care of themselves and we'll be sitting comfortable.

Thing is, theres a million different answers to this, each of which will see Alf drag 10 of your previous posts to beat you to fuck with.

I'll agree with whatever you say Alf, its easier.

Being serious, I share the view that as long as we have enough to stay up, the points total is largely irrelevant. As is league position if it’s in the range 7-21st.

Finishing the season with some hope for next season is more important.

I would like Karanka to buy two or three real quality players now and bed them in ready to build next season.
Hopefully Clayton would be one of them. Clayton and Bridcutt in front of the defence would make us hard to beat.
Perhaps a real pacy striker come winger and a solid central defender and left back.

I don't think he's going to buy anyone this window.
He's repeated he wants to give everyone a chance and seems happy enough with who is here.

As long as we address our defensive situation that's fine. If he thinks a side that has shipped goals for fun will suddenly stop being so leaky he's got another thing coming.

Not a chance. The squad still needs reinforcements all over the shop. He will know this and he will get some players in.

You leave it all until the summer and you changing too much, two or three quality additions now mean you will need two or three less in the summer.

The brief is more than likely prepare this squad for a serious playoff push next season.

He said it eould be stronger after the windows closed, now that could mean many things, mentally, physically etc but lets be honest he meant signings.

    I expect 2 or 3 minimum

You should only expect signings if they're what we need and at the right value.

There's no point picking anyone up now unless we would have bought them, or someone similar, for the same price or less in Summer.

I can definitely see us not signing anyone.

So if he doesn't buy anyone, we can surmise the press story about MW being sacked because of his unambitious targets was bullshit, yes?

We can surmise that already. He was sacked because the owners believed Karanka would do a better job, nothing more, nothing less.

    Not really no.

The owners were looking to give Warburton & his plan a kick start. Assuming he declined, they've moved on to a manager who they may feel to be more rounded & less reliant on the transfer market.

What little they've seen of Karanka will see him calling the shots for now,
