Default Matchday 17: Birmingham City vs Nottingham Forest

    Birmingham City vs Nottingham Forest

    Date: Saturday 18 November
    Location: St Andrew's, Birmingham
    Kick off: 15.00

Forest head south west along the A42 to St Andrew's after the international break to do battle with Birmingham City, now under the management of former Reds boss Steve Cotterill.

The two sides have played each other 112 times in all competitions since their first meeting way back in 1894, with Forest edging the Blues in terms of wins, having beaten them 41 times, drawing 33 times and losing 38.

The Reds will be buoyed by a fantastic team performance against previous opponents QPR at the City Ground and will look to replicate that performance and snatch their fourth away win of the season at St Andrew's. Forest currently sit two points off the playoff places and there's every chance that a fourth win in five games could see them enter the top six.

The Blues on the other hand will be looking to end what has been a poor run of form since manager Steve Cotterill took over, having won one, drawn one and lost three in his first five matches, leaving them in the Championship relegation zone. They'll need a better showing against Forest if they are to record only their fourth home win of the season and pull themselves out of the bottom three.

    Form:

    Birmingham City: L L D L W
    Nottingham Forest: W L W W L

    Recent league meetings:

    Team stats:

    Did you know?

    • Birmingham City were one half of the first million pound transfer when Trevor Francis left the club to join Brian Clough's Forest on February 9, 1979. Clough notoriously claimed that the fee was in fact £999,999, however the actual fee was over £1 million including taxes.

    • The Blues were the first English club to play in a European competition when they played their first group match in the 1955–58 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup on 15 May 1956. They were also the first English side to reach a European final when they met Barcelona in the final of the same tournament in 1960.

    • Birmingham have the dubious honour of being one of the few teams to win a major trophy and be relegated in the same season when they won the League Cup in 2011 but were relegated from the Premier League the same year. Two other clubs to achieve this undesirable feat in recent times are Norwich City who won the League Cup and were relegated from Division 1 in 1985, and Wigan who won the FA Cup and were relegated from the Premier League in 2013.

    Birmingham's style of play: Cotterball.

    Did you mean CotterNIL?
Me and Mrs S usually go to each Forest v Blues fixture, home or away, where we meet up with our Bluenose friends.
This will be the first one that I have missed - I shall be freezing my nuts off on a photography trip to the Isle of Skye, however, Mrs S will be making the journey on her own.
Blues have some very serious problems, not least a foreign owner with no understanding of the English Club ethos, frequent managerial changes, and last but not least a bit of an injury problem!
    Sound familiar?
It should, and with CotterNil at the helm I don't see their woes ending in the near future.
That said, they have some big lads, and tend to play a very physical game.
They have one of last season's best creative players in Jota (why didn't we buy him?), but even he is struggling to make much of an impact in such a turgid team.
I do think Forest will win, but only by the odd goal in 3.
So, Blues1 Forest 2 is my prediction.
By the way, if you should meet up with Mrs S, treat her with respect!

Steve Cotterill is the reminder that not all Fawaz's decisions were bad ones.

This is a great opportunity to cement our position in the top 10 and put some pressure on those in the play-off places.

Bangerz - Your matchdays scribes are pretty decent and all that but having fecked with portocol and got a result, you're now abiding by protocol.

    This doesn't bode well.

International break has come at a better time for them than us, don't think it will make a huge difference though.

Theyre winless & goalless in four & bearly got a pulse, if we take anything like that QPR performance to St Andrews we'll piss it.

    Same team.

Brum 0 Forest 2 (Walker, Murphy)

I hope I haven't angered the forum gods

If we lose against Brum you'll have to make a ritual sacrifice of me to appease them

They will provide a dirty, physical, long ball, disruptive fouling, stop-start challenge.

We've got to be up for this from the first whistle. Theses are the games where we need the bottle to pass it under high pressure, carry on when they keep stopping the game and slowing it down, and move it quickly into the space when we have the chance.

Will be a tough game. We need to be up for it.

This is the most positive I've been all year, I think we will destroy these. I can't stand Cotterill and I can't stand the fact we paid 350k for him. 4-1 Forest I'm going!

I can’t stand Birmingham so I’m hoping for a continuation of the form we showed against QPR.

Brum 0, Forest 2, Murphy and McKay the scorers.

Steve Cotterill’s Post-match presser: “If we’d have scored three goals, we’d have won!”

What a smug-faced slack-jawed clusterfucking omnishambles of a football manager.

    Argh.

It's made me so angry bringing back the terrible tenure he had with us - I'd built sophisticated psychological barriers to protect me from it, but this resurgence of the crucifier onto the football scene has brought all of the abject misery flooding back.

"The Crucifier", forgot about that one!

Bloody hell Bangerz, you're a bit hot off the mark with this one aren't you? My runes can't see that far into the future (or indeed at all) so will have to go with the feeling in my water....

....which is both wet and warm. Conclusion; having dumped on QPR we'll piss on Birmingham. 1-3 to The Reds.

Nicely presented by the way. No idea what all those stats are supposed to mean but they look lovely.

A proverbial banana skin if there ever was one, struggling opposition run by an ex manager and they are a stubborn side at the best of times.

However, if we can play anything close to the QPR performance we should thump them into the middle of next week.

I'm hoping and kind of expecting a good result, a loss here would be a big disappointment.
A win will put us in business if other results go our way.

    COME ON YOU REDS!

I think it's half the reason that we've won 8 and lost 8.

If this trend continues do 69 points generally sneak into to playoffs?

Win this and it's nosebleed time

Lose and it's back to mini meltdown central

    We'll paste these 0-1

From memory, we always seem to flop after an international break... hope i'm wrong.

Control the midfield like we have been in recent weeks and these shouldn't give us too many problems.

It's been pretty remarkable the difference in the paths both teams have taken since the end of last season. McKay and Dowell will be licking their lips at the thought of this fixture! 2-0 Reds
