    Totally agree Otis, spot on.

It pisses me off folk don't know that a player has left a club , I was chatting to a Geordie on holiday he was banging on about who they were signing , I said we have just signed Murphy from you and could tell by his face he didn't have a clue who he was.
I class myself as a semi armchair fan only getting to games a few times a year but I like to think I know what players we have and can more than hold my own when chatting anything to do with Forest.
Far too many people call themselves fans yet don't have a clue about their given club.
The prem clubs are the worst.
Fucking glory hunters , I also find it funny when you meet a fan of another club and say you had a good result last night , Only for them to say I don't know.

Similarly Lard, there's a Celtic 'fan' who regularly frequents my Sneinton local who will gladly bore the arse off of anyone and everyone about the Lisbon Lions. Ask him to name a current line-up and he doesn't have a clue.

I did notice some "Short Out" banners in the 'home' crowd last night, in protest at their owner.

Trouble for them is, aren't they somewhere north of £100m in debt? And if so, it's not like a prospective owner could pick them up for, say, £35m or so, unlike some Championship clubs I could mention.

From a financial standpoint, even with their parachute millions, they are not an attractive investment, saddled as they are, as you say, with a squad packed with disinterested millionaires who clearly can't be arsed.

He probably couldn't find Celtic on a map!

He is actually Glaswegian by birth, and claims to have been in Lisbon in '67, and although he's old enough (he's around my age), I'm not at all convinced.

On the surface it appears to be a not disimilar situation to that of Blackburn and the Venkys - owners with no football background whatsoever but attracted by the potential riches and the global profile of the PL.

A chap I know, owns a company in Glasgow I used to work with some years ago, is a Celtic season ticket holder (his company has a box there also) and he wasn't at the match in 1967 (because he's the same age as me, and thus, wasn't even born) once told me that if everyone who claims to have been there in 1967 was actually there, the match would have needed to have been played in the Maracana, to fit them all in, and it would have left no space for the away fans!

I'd say there's another fundamental problem...the apathy and despondancy among fans, which will not simply disappear through solving the other two problems.

Reading Calvin's quotes and also having a quick look on their forum suggests they are not in a good place. I feel for their fans as they are a lot more palatable than Newcastle. Having said that I still seething at the sight of Grayson's pitch invasion to get Cohen sent off.

Whilst I have some sympathy for Sunderland, as it appears they are another club being run into the ground by an abject owner...

...Simon Grayson is their manager, so fuck 'em.

Upon what do you base that assumption?

Born facing the Tyne - either side - qualifies you as a Geordie and last time I was in Shields (4 weeks ago)it was still at the mouth of that river.

Makems are those born by the River Wear; back in the shipbuilding days Sunderland Makem Newcastle Takem.
