They're all at it, the only difference is that 888 got caught.

I'd agree though, in an ideal world it would be nice to not have to be sponsored by a bookmaker. It says a lot that half the Championship (and many in the Prem) seem to be sponsored by one online bookie or another these days.

The 888 looks awful on the shirt so any new sponsor would be welcomed.

Gambling commission has ruled that they aren't doing enough to protect customers with gambling problem. EG those who self barred their accounts were still allowed to bet due to a 'technical flaw'. I work in automated software testing and acquainted with a developer at Bet365. Quite frankly a company of that size not picking up such a major bug on the live release version is 'unbelievable'.

Other infringement mentioned was not stepping in when an individual was gambling for 3-4 hours a day and losing vast sums (turns out the money was stolen from his workplace)

I'm sure this hasn't gone unnoticed by Nicholas Randall QC..

Virtually every company who would sponsor us has probably done something dodgy or is up to no good. If football clubs are going to be sponsored by large companies looking to make profits then these things will happen.

I'd much rather us not be sponsored by gambling companies but then the same goes for alcoholic drinks makers. Right now with the state of this clubs finances due to the fact that the last two regimes over 20 years have completely neglected the clubs need to find revenue streams, we have to go for whoever offers us the most money. If we could get away with being sponsored by local companies or charities then that would be brilliant but the game is so money driven and we've already been left really far behind.

From a selfish point of view I'd be happy if the club dropped 888 as it would hopefully mean I could buy the new shirt without a sponsor

Mothercare doesn't tend to sponsor footy teams.

Gambling companies should be banned from advertising in my opinion anyway. If you can't have alcohol you shouldn't be allowed gambling.

Not Wonga though. They're just out and out fucking vultures.

The trouble with having 'adult brands' on shirts is that kids still associate the club with that brand. My 8-year-old lambasted me the other day for putting a bet on with 365 when I should have done it with 888 Sport, who are 'Forest supporters'.

(Shouldn't have put the f*cker on at all as had 3-1 Forest)

    Said an 888 spokesman.

This. All sponsorships do is make you aware of a company.

I don't think I have ever brought something because it's on any shirt, if I am honest. Maybe I am not there customer.

Teams (especially Premier League teams) should promote local charities. Shirt sponsorships don't bring in a large chunk of clubs income anymore.

Dunno, but I wouldn't drink Carlsberg if it was the only liquid in the middle of a desert, would rather walk everywhere than have Avon Tyres on my car and wouldn't have a penny on with Red32, even if they were the last bookies on earth and I was onto a dead cert.

Sometimnes it works the opposite way.

My Mackem mate refused to go with NTL when they were sponsoring Newcastle.

I won't use Just Eat & had the option to buy a Jeep car recently and one of the factors that made me decline was they used to sponsor the bleaters down the road.

The beast is stirring yet again!!

it has nothing to do with football or NFFC

I don't use online gambling services but I've always thought being sponsored by a betting company was a bit, well, tacky?

John Pye Auctions wasn't too bad, or what's wrong with the Nottingham Building Society?

(VfB Stuttgart, as a comparison, are sponsored by the Mercedes-Benz Bank, who are, you will be no doubt unsurprised to hear, headquartered in Stuttgart. Many German teams are sponsored by large businesses local to them; Bayern by Deutsche Telekom, Schalke by Gazprom, and even modest Hoffenheim are sponsored by SAP, as the guy who owns them, Dietmar Hopp, also owns SAP - he co-founded it, in fact, and he's from the local region).

I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

Look at the size of some of those German sponsors though, Gazprom for example. They are enormous compared to the likes of John Pye and Nottingham Building Society

In an ideal world it would be lovely to see Forest sponsored by a local company or charity but in this age of FFP and with players wages and transfer fees sky rocketing they have to find the way to squeeze most money.

Especially after decades of the clubs commercial side being completely ignored because two regimes didn't think they needed to do things like that

Isn't Gazprom owned by the Russian government?

Pretty much. They're richer than quite a lot of countries.

They own a lot of banks, media organisations and control the whole oil and gas industry in Russia, that exports to Europe through Ukraine.

They already sponsor Zenit St Petersburg and Schalke 04.

    Very powerful company.

Telekom also are massive, they are essentially Germany's national communications provider.

Mercedes-Benz Bank, who sponsor VfB, are part of the gigantic Daimler-Benz empire, mainly in relation to financial dealings for the automotive bits (but not limited to that).

    SAP are quite big, too...

As for Nottingham Building Society I think that would be a great move in the future. They clearly have an interest in sport sponsorship being the main sponsor of Leicester Tigers. Also have an existing relationship with Forest

    https://www.thenottingham.com/sponso...y/sponsorship/

According to their 2016 financial report have a turnover in the region of 100 million, profit of around 20 million and reserves/ assets of £3.6 billion. Not short of a few bob!
