just look at Kieran 'total football' Dowell - if we can have players in all positions who can move the ball faster than the opposition then we are going to be hard to beat this season
He hasnt got the collective tools for the job though, Im assuming he's acknowledged this when he relented on the ball out on the floor unconditionally approach against Boro.

Theres certainly an element of other players struggling with it too, Id rather us relax it where we can & keep the quality shot stopping in the side while we give it more time.

having a keeper with good distribution still doesn't eliminate our defence weakness to the high ball. that issue has been a nagging issue since pre-season and we hasn't corrected it. what i wish for a dominant cb.

I get it, Smith is an academy product, a local lad and he has done well but he isn't Buffon. He is a decent shot stopper, the rest of his game is pretty average and his distribution is poor. He will make a decent career out of either being a dependable backup or lower championship 'keeper.

Similar things were said when we signed DDV while Darlow was still knocking about and once DDV got a run in the side, we all saw what a massive upgrade it was eventually.

    Trust the process.

A commanding keeper with good distribution would significantly improve the whole defence. Again on Saturday there were too many instances were a shout was needed from the keeper but Smith was silent. The keeper has the best view and needs to be organising them. Smith is very good for his age but he's nowhere near the finished article yet and still has a lot to learn about team work. At the very least he needs some proper competition.

It really bugs me when people say how good a shot stopper a 'keeper is. They bloody should be. That's the no.1 job.

Smith has promise, but he definitely needs to improve his distribution. This guy looks like a footballer. Having someone who has quality distribution is vital to our style.

According to a Danish newspaper, Forest have offered 15 million Danish Kroner, which has been rejected. Brøndby wants 22,5 million kroner.

That's a lot of kroner separating the buyer and the seller. I also doubt that moving from Brøndby to Forest will be seen as a significant step up for Rønnow. He is the undisputed starter in the team with the second total value in the top tier of Danish football, a team that finished second in the championship last year. The only way he would see coming to the Championship as an advancement in his carreer would be to be convinced that you're going places. The much heftier wages you are certainly offering him (not a difficult task given that Danish football is quite poor) may be a factor obviously, but there's the added problem that Brøndby will need to find a replacement for a starting keeper within days.

Of course, you'd have to ask yourself, 'who ever heard of a keeper from Brøndby coming to England and doing a decent job?'

Seems as far fetched as Denmark winning the European Championships ...

Having a keeper with the confidence to come out and deal with some of them does though and that's another of the areas Smith needs to improve on.

Danish players are usually good value for money - you just never know, maybe he'll end up being as huge a success as Lord Bendtner was...

In english, we've offered ~£1.8m and they want ~£2.8m?

If we met in the middle at somewhere around £2.3m you'd call that a good deal.

Everyone likes a bargain and this transfer window we've done some amazingly good deals for very good players...McKay and Bridcutt to name but 2. Brondby aren't going to sell their number 1 keeper unless we match their valuation and you can't blame them for that. So on this occasion either put up or shut up.

If Frank McP & MW are willing to bid over £2m for a player they must rate him fairly highly.
