I see Lord Soames wore trainers with his Savile Row suit to the races yesterday.....with pink socks.
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...as-Soames.html

I would have thought he should have known how to dress better at his age. The Mogg needs to have a word with him.

Not sure what trainers they are? I am sure you lot know and will probably boycott them now?

We used to go out in shorts on a Saturday afternoon in Blackpool religiously, my mate turned up in a pair with 2 stripes down the side.
"Fucking hell, did you get those out of lost property?"
He was Mr Vest and Pants for a couple of years after that.

    They’re better than I imagined.
Someone I know on another forum is trying to get me into SPDs but I’m a stubborn bugger when it comes to change and added expense.

I tried SPD's once - practised clipping in and out for a week before venturing onto the road.

Pulled off the drive and within 20 yards id fallen sideways and was lying in the middle of the road with my bike in the air still connected to my feet lol

    Never again!

I've come off a couple of times with cleats on and not been able to free my feet in time. Classic was at the busy junction in the morning rush-hour when my rear wheel slipped on wet road markings and literally slid on the floor for 3 or 4 meters, ripped all the skin on one side from ankle to armpit. I'm lying in the road, bike attached to me, blood everywhere and drivers trying to get around me with one of them screaming at me to "get out of fucking the way". I thanked him for his sympathy and assitance with bunch of expletives as i writhed and wriggled my way free like somekind of cycling Houdini..

You can set the tension of the cleats releasing mechanism on many of the clipless pedals these days. Thats what I do for town riding. With all the stopping and starting at traffic lights etc there's little need to have your foot firmly fixed to your pedal.

However, if I'm up at Wharnecliffe Woods bombing down the trails I'll set the tensioner far higher. Getting my foot out is the least of my problems, not hitting the trees is my biggest worry

I've come off so many times now, it doesn't really bother me anymore.

Get a 40kg cargobike on it's side with 60kg of parcels in it and you'll be going nowhere fast

Worst thing that's probably ever happened to me in a city centre is bombing down the inside of traffic on Burton St in Nottingham approaching Vic Centre and the passenger door of the front car got thrown open in my path, resulting in me being thrown one way, the bike the other, resulting in me prostate in the middle of Milton St with a broken leg and all the Friday night rush hour traffic trying to drive over the top of me!

    Won't make that mistake again

I had a similar when I was 17ish and in in the racing form of my life!

Came down Mansfield from the Cemetary into town, all lights on green. As I got to the bottom by the Yorker, Old radio Nottingham, there was a slight S-bend in the road with a little camber. I took the line beautifully but a woman stepped out to cross the road. I shouted for her to step back but she rushed forward but I'd already commited to my path. I managed to free my feet from old-school caging and threw the bike from under me but I caught her, knocked out flat and rolled off down the road. I had rubberised wets on at the time, which melted into my calf.

I was on the way to sign-on. Still got there.

Whole new way of cycling when you get into man size clips. Still got the scars on my knees from learning but I wouldn’t cycle without them now

    This.

Not only are you pshing forward and down with one leg you're pulling back and upwards with the other.

Makes you far more efficient on the bike and of course takes you one step further down the route to being a fully fledged MAMIL, all set up to piss Wes off

My worst when clipped in was going toward the four-way junction on the A60, down from the TBI towards the Ford garage. I was in the outer lane, as I was heading straight on to Rudd, and an Audi swerved out of the left lane into my lane, clipping my back wheel and sending me sprawling, whilst still clipped in.

It’s alright though, he lowered a window, shouted „I’m late for a meeting!“ and drove off.

I didn’t think much of that, and funnily enough, neither did Nottinghamshire Constabulary!

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

    Luckily, I don't.
