    As a former member of HM Royal Navy, I'd have thought a pair of rubber flippers would have been more your bag?

    „I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

    Naval issue deck shoes, from scrubbing in the day to pulling scrubbers at night, this shoe was the Swiss army knife of issued kit.

    Converse are certainly acceptable. I have a pair of All-Stars myself but they are a bit narrow.

    I tend to have on the go: a casual trainer, mostly Adidas Samba (currently Blue/Red) but occasionally might go to Nike Cortez or Puma Liga; a trecking type shoe for day-to-day use, currently HiTec Libero WP; and a basketball boot (always black) currently British Knights Ranger;

    I got some deck shoes once when I used to sail regularly. I found them as slippy as fuck. Nearly ended up in the drink a few times. They were cheapos though.

    Having been to a couple of Anglo-French weddings you can easily spot the difference between the French and English guests:

    The French women and men are dressed in classical and sophisticated style; whereas the English woman are tottering around in 6" heels in dresses that hardly cover anything and their beer-bellied English partners are in badly fitting suits that make them look like "The accused" in a courtroom.

    I have worn converse in the past, but I find them generally too narrow to be really comfortable. Also they are now stupidly expensive for what they actually are.

    I left my fucking boat shoes in Hawaii, they were my favorite shoes. Wore them everyday in high school.

    I happen to know that TBT prefers a shiny shoe to a trainer.
    Make of that what you will.

    Absolute hogwash, French men are terrible dressers, would fall in a barrel of Gucci and come out looking like Wurzel Gummage.

    I've been here nearly 8 years now and as I live in a farming region, scruffy and mucky is the norm, however at Shul in town when the Parisians and Lyonaises come home for Rosh Hashanah or a Bris they look far smarter than the "tarty" Brits I have seen back in Blighty.

    We don't have Essex girls here and the Chavs stay in the Banlieues.
