Given he and Carvalho are the same age and we had Dowell last year (when presumably Carvalho wasn't as good) I wouldn't say there's an awful lot of difference between them.

Dowell clearly a bigger goal threat, Carvalho more fundamental to connecting play. Dowell often stayed pretty central and play either went through him, or towards the end, didn't.

Carvalho moved from side to side to keep connecting play. This was crucial to Karanka's 'trial and error' system of trying to find ways through.

Ultimately that's why he's not needed right now. The 'trial and error' comes from the full backs down the channels.

‘Trial and error’ is the Spanish style. Under Karanka we played very similar to the way Benitez’s teams play - probing and waiting for the opening. Similar to the way other La Liga teams play, but with a British flavour.

It only takes a second to score a goal.

Played deeper last night and was supposedly outstanding for the Blades as they beat Boro.

Surprised he hasn't scored for them yet, but the blunts I talk too all sing his praises highly.

Good player, but doesnt get about the pitch any where near quick enough to fit in with what we're doing now.

He has the potential to be a good player, but yeah, his lack of pace means there’s a ceiling on the level he’ll eventually play at.

I'd be with you, but my perception of sky sports is Merson et al talking utter rubbish.

Everton want to loan him out again but Sheff Utd supposedly gone cold on him, Hudds and Wigan interested. Looked like he'd added a bit of physicality into his game at Sheff Utd last season. Wouldn't be a bad loan if he fancied coming back imo.

Agree on Dowell, looked a better player at the blunts, maybe down to better players around him.

Dowell alongside Carvalho in a 4141 would be a treat, with Colback sitting.

Cant see Martin getting that brave to be honest, then it becomes difficult to fit JC & KD in the same line up.

Think the two of them along with Lolley and Grabban would work well, enough smarts in there to get on each others wavelength fairly quickly, it's just how you fit them all in as you say and of course a sizeable change in tactics.

I'd take him back straight away, can play out wide or down the middle would be a great and cheap competition for Carvalho which is needed.

Not a player in a position we are in need of strengthening, but I'd gladly take him back. Quality player who I thought did really well in a pretty crap Forest side in his previous stint here, I'd be interested to see what he can do with better quality players around him.

Why would Carvalho need competition at the bench?

Good player, Dowell. Maybe a bit inconsistent, but he's young.
