    Default Happy Birthday, Mr. Clough

The great man would have been 82 today.

I can still remember the day he arrived at the CG. I stood talking to the next door neighbour (an Arsenal fan) over the garden fence and said to him "We'll soon be catching you up now". I think we were something like 18th in the second division at the time! Neighbour scoffed and I really didn't believe, but so glad I was wrong.

    Can't believe he's 82, he's still older than me!

Very happy to share my birthday with the great man. It is my pleasure and privilege to do so.

Somebody has to be a wanker, it might as well be me, but he's been dead for over 12 years.

Talk about living in the past. I realise it's international fortnight and there is little news coming out of the club, but really is this the best we have to discuss?

He may have provided some of us with the best footballing memories we are likely to ever have but he was only a custodian of the managers seat on a temporary basis.

Football has changed beyond comprehension since his appointment, I wonder how long he would get today.

It's lovely to reminisce but don't spend too much time dwelling on the past as it cannot be changed.

All that is important is the next game. Everything else is but a memory that fades with time.

I had the last laugh, but it was rocky for a time. He went to every Arsenal home game, so naturally I went with him the season we got promoted. Sad to say, that was one of the three games we lost and we got taught a lesson. He was smirking a bit on the way home, but then we had our extraordinary run of success and I was smirking!

Everybody is entitled to an opinion. I remember my wedding anniversary every year even though my wife died five years ago. I remember the time I went into the Army as a wet wimp and came out a man.

I remember lots of things about the past, not because I don't like today, but because those memories give me pleasure.

It seems strange to say talking about this is living in the past then say it's lovely to reminisce. Everything has a place and everything in it's place. Just enjoy yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Perhaps I'm just old and crabby.

Why would anyone react in such a derisory manor about the birthday of such a man as BC?
You either think about him for a second and smile or ignore it and carry on.
Seems a bit strange to have such a strong reaction to it.

Thanks for the link TT. It's a different world back then... the photos invoke many happy memories and I'm just thankful I was around at the time to savour those incredible times.

What a stupid post, can't believe more people have not jumped on this!
Disrespectful to the man and to those of us who were around at that time.
For me it is fond memories, i'm sure many, many others feel the same.
Rest in peace Brian and thanks for the great times

That nobody else has jumped on it should tell you why.

Swaggers was around during all of the Cloughie days and enjoyed them greatly just like you and many others did too.

The forum is quiet, there's the international break too, so Swaggers thought a slightly controversial post might get people talking, it's a forum after all.

That nobody took the post seriously shows too many people know me too well. By all means jump on it if you like but it was posted to stir up conversation on a quiet day.
