Default Hopes and Expectations for season 2017-18

I've just worked out that our average finishing position this century is 16th in the Championship.

It's quite a reality check of where we are as a club, and for me says that a finish anywhere above 16th this season will represent a positive start to the new era.

Hopes - challenging the top 6 playing great football, the ongoing repair of the club's image and finances, stability in terms of introducing professionalism and organisation.

Expectation - finishing above 16th playing a fast passing game, the ongoing repair of the club's image and finances, stability in terms of introducing professionalism and organisation.

What are your hopes and expectations for the new season?

    Top 10 as an expectation.
We should aim to be top 6, knowing its probably not going to happen. Anything below 12th and i think the fat lady will start singing the end of MW.
    I would target:
    60-65pts.
    Home win vs the sheep.
    Competitive in every match
Not lose by a big margin in any match
A strong end to the season proving progression
    CG a fortress
Creative play, goals from all areas.
    No ACL's or similar

Avoiding a potential relegation on the last day of the season would be a good start.

    Anything higher is a bonus.

Should Mr Marinakis take my advice and bribe every referee with £100k in used £20's then promotion to the promised land as Champions is a foregone conclusion

As an outsider who likes the idea of a historic club trying to stand on its feet again (with people from my club involved), I would hope that you succeed in easily avoiding relegation drama, forging a solid team that plays a recognizable style of football, enjoy the competition, and strive to become its against-all-odds-cinderella.

As an outsider who knows nothing of the Championship, I expect mid-table.

Promotion - same as every season - bound to right eventually - well not bound to be, but there's a chance I will be one day.

Hope - top 6, Warburton here for whole season, no injuries, good cup run.

Expect - win more games than we lose, mid table, enjoyable football, a settled back line/ first XI, 100% more professionalism off the pitch/ no drama.

This season I hope we finish mid table but playing some good football and ideally within spitting distance of 6th so the season doesn't end too early. I also want to see a better mentality away from home so we have good things to build on for the following seasons playoff push.

Hope - challenging in and around 6th-10th, and if playoffs actually look like they're becoming a certainty come January then further investment in the squad

Expectation - entertaining football, win more than we lose and 8th-14th finish. If we could finish with a 15+ point gap off the relegation zone I'd be happy with that

Fly under the radar until January, then move into 7th, 8th or 9th until Easter. Let the top six burn themselves out and then sneak 6th place at the death. Then win the Playoffs against 3 teams who have lost momentum....simples.

Hope to go up as champions with 100 plus points with Derby going down with less than 11 points.

Expectation is round about mid table which would represent good solid progress.

I'd take finishing the season with the same manager we started off with.

Our squad is weak and needs a couple of years under the same manager to improve.

Realistic hope is to gatecrash top 6.

Realistic expectation is 12th to 18th, cutting the wage bill still some more whilst playing some entertaining football. That would satisfy me and represent real progress after half a decade of dross.

What are your hopes and expectations for the new season?
You've more-or-less summed up mine in a nutshell Ravi.

I still believe it will take a couple more windows, at least, for FMcP and the manager to finally achieve the core squad they're seeking to realistically make a sustained promotion challenge.

The wheel of fortune is turning. We're definitely moving upwards.

But apart from steering clear of the relegation scrap, we should keep expectations firmly in check.

First, we should remember that we already have one huge and scarcely deserved bonus: we had a relegation season but didn't get relegated. Starting the season in the Championship means that we're already a year ahead of where we might well have been in our long-term goal of making the PL.
Second, the abysmal nature of last season has one upside in that it is relatively easy to improve. Just having a stable and professional set-up will be a vast benefit.
So I'm expecting an enjoyable season.
Unless we sign a top class central midfielder, we won't be consistent enough and we'll lose a fair few games to teams that play an effective counter-attacking style. But we'll also play a lot of lovely football, score some great team goals and win enough games to be reasonably comfortable.
I can see us being mid-table for a lot of the season, maybe throwing a few shapes in the direction of the play-offs but not having quite the depth, guile or stamina to pull it off yet. But I think, apart from the idiots, we'll be proud of our team and our club again.

Chris the Octopus has predicted a comfortable 12th-placed finish.

Plenty to look forward to this season.

Hope: I'm obviously not going to not hope we go up. Would be thrilled if we somehow got 6th-10th though.

Expectation: Be pretty much out of the reckoning for relegation by April. Finish the season with Warburton in charge.

We've got to remember everyone in this squad in not assembled by Montaier/Pereira, or Freedman or Psycho, but over the last 5 years by the absolute buffoon that is Fawaz. Shit all wage structure, horribly imbalanced, signed by 3 or 4 managers with hugely contrasting ideas about how football should be played. We've got some decent players on paper, but they've all been signed and used for different purposes, meaning it's not a cohesive squad. While I rate Warburton as a manager, attempting to get promotion with this squad 1st season is a huge ask. Next year I'll be probably be slightly more optimistic, when he's managed to get rid of more players and bring in more to match his own style.
