Lol. I meant one we can rely on all season.

I'd still we recruit young, hungry players, mind.

Guilty as charged. I put it in the bank though, for the next tine the legendary pint-pulling lothario was brought up in conversation.

in defence or midfield i can see because experience helps in those area , a striker though - you don't get better as you get older , you just get slower and less prolific. bring back adebola.

Understand that Nottingham Forest have bid in excess of £2m for Newcastle's Ireland striker Daryl Murphy.

Edit: Some more from the Chronical's chief sports writer:

#nufc have had 3 enquiries for Daryl Murphy. Birmingham, Sunderland and Forest all in. Forest's £2million looks like they've won the race.

    - Daryl Murphy will be offered a two year-deal by #nffc and his exit should free up room for a striker. #nufc

    - Daryl Murphy had been open to staying at #nufc but chance of a 2yr deal at 34 is a great opportunity and he will get goals in Championship.

Decent Signing at £2m. The team does need some experience and he is a proven scorer at this level

Also might suggest that the lion's share of the Britt money will be made available for areas of bigger concern like midfield.

Didn't think this would be the type of signing MW would make... 2 mil for a 34 year old. McParland has been here since March and Murphy is the best he's found?

Having said that, Newcastle fans on twitter are saying Murphy was good for them last year.

Boring signing, but it makes sense. You've got to appreciate that the club have faith in Cummings, Brereton and Clough so probably don't want to go sign another player who will need gametime and development. Murphy knows his role and can be plugged in, do a job and won't need to be first choice all the time. As long as the money is still reinvested elsewhere, i'm fine with no big attacking signing this summer.

An experienced Championship wing striker and £2m isn't a large fee.
I'd be happy with this one.

A good buy and gave us problems when playing against us. He can hold the ball up well.

This would be the end of vellios, right?

Murphy, McKay, Cummings, Justin, CDM and CB would be a solid transfer window, coupled with getting a few off the books.

Hes a 1 in 2.5ish goal scorer, fairly cheap and gives us experience up front which we are drastically lacking.

    Decent signing imo

With Clough, McKay, Cummings, Brereton... etc we have a lot of technical players, but mostly ones who come deeper to get the ball. We really need someone who will hold the play up and bring them into play, furthermore, we need someone who is a threat with crosses into the box.

Murphy or Jerome would do that. Would hate to pay £6m for Jerome though, £2m for Murphy isn't amazing, but for 2yrs, It wouldn't be too bad.

    Never fucking heard of him.

2 million is a lot of money that could go elsewhere... like Two new centre halves and Two new Midfielders.

4 years ago he was the best striker in the division, arguably.

A better deal than Jerome, would assume Cummings/brereton will be number one

Assume he'd be putting in the effort to get in the Republic squad for a possible World Cup.
