This seems to be the theme so far, yet Martins still sitting on a one season premier league shoot out.

Doesnt add up. Without being a believer either way, he needs to be given a fighting chance.

    Colback isn't a definite.
Pele and Wague have returned to their home clubs.
    No one has come in.
It is weaker than it was.
Doubtless there will be acquisitions but as we stand there hasn't been any.
So, with all due respect, and all modesty, I am spot on to say that as things stand the squad is weaker than it was at the end of last season and with each departure it is getting weaker.
Lolley, Yacob and Benalouane are all still Forest players as things stand, so we can't really use them in an argument for us being weaker at this point in time. Of those three, only Lolley would be a huge loss IMO.

Colback is the only player I would say is a significant loss, and he may yet return or be replaced by someone else.

The rest of the players we have lost are either broken (Byram and Soudani), mediocre (Wague, Pele, Janko, etc) or just plain crap (Ward and Henderson).

Even without any signings through the door yet, we aren't really that much worse off as things stand.

We start every season with the manager seemingly determined to get rid of the deadwood in the squad.

So how come we finish every season with so much deadwood?

That isn’t a squad capable of challenging I’m afraid. Relies too much on Grabban being fit.

Is it because we recruit the wrong sort of player, because we can't attract or afford the right sort?

Training at Wollaton Hall - https://www.nottinghamforest.co.uk/n...gets-underway/

Ameobi is going to be our new Michael Antonio... I feel it in my water.

In my honest and attempting to be objective opinion - this is based on my eye test versus championship overall quality rather than quality in our squad.

    GKs

    Costel Pantilimon 7/10
    Luke Steele 5/10
    George Shelvey ?

    RBs/RWBs
    Tendayi Darikwa 6/10
    Matty Cash 6/10
    Jayden Richardson ?

    CBs
Michael Dawson - 7/10 when fit, maybe lower with age
    Joe Worrall - 5/10
    Tobias Figueiredo - 6/10
    Yohan Benalouane 5/10
    Alex Milosevic - 8/10

    LBs/LWBs

    Jack Robinson - 6/10 LB, 7/10 CB
    Ben Osborn - 7/10 LWB, 4/10 LB

    CMs
    Claudio Yacob - 6/10
    Ben Watson 4/10
    Liam Bridcutt 4/10
    Ryan Yates 5/10
    Adlene Guediora - 5/10
    Tyrese Fornah ?

    AMFs/WFs
    Joe Lolley - 10/10
    Joao Carvalho - 9/10
    Sammy Ameobi 6/10

Overall, I think there’s a few too many 5s and 6s and not enough 8/9s. Generally squads only have one or two top percentile Championship players, and every squad had some 5s and 6s, but if you look at Villa/Sheffield United/Norwich they generally end up with majority 7s and 8s in their starting lineup.

Having broken it down like that, clearly we need reinforcements in CM, WF and LB and RB. Which we all knew anyway, but it feels good to write it down statistically.

I'll reserve judgement till I've seen him play in a red shirt - EDIT: that's Ameobi I'm referring too

Without wishing to be pedantic, there are no statistics in your post.
The numbers you quote are shorthand squiggles representing your qualitative opinion.
I'm not inferring your opinion is less valid than anyone else's.
And over-all I think many others, including me, would agree with your qualitative assessment.

Bridcutt isn't awful, certainly better than Watson (who I doubt is even League One standard nowadays).

While I am not one of those fans who shits themselves everytime we are linked with someone who is on the wrong side of 30, we certainly need some younger players in there. Yates is the only midfielder at the club who is under 30, which is a huge problem in a position of the pitch where we really need some energy and athleticism to succeed (as well as quality, which is also lacking at the moment).

If we play Bridcutt and Carvalho we are a bit small.
If we play Watson we are more than a bit slow.
However, if we play Ameobi and Bridcutt, it might be ok.

Good point actually, a bit of height and strength in midfield won't go amiss. Hopefully at least one of the midfielders we will hopefully bring in offers that.
