What we need depends on what our ambitions are (which in turn depends on our finances I'd imagine).

If we are looking for improvement and establishing ourselves in midtable, we require a left back, two midfielders and another winger. Failure to acquire decent players in these positions would probably result in another relegation battle.

If we are going to challenge for a top six spot, we will need (in addition to the above) another goalkeeper, another right back, another centre back and another winger. Highly unlikely I reckon.

Several signings are needed to avoid a repeat of last season. We still haven't replaced the points that Burke and Lansbury won us.

    We have:

Carayol, who flourished when given an extended run in the team.
Ariyibi, who is essentially still a new signing as he's not had his chance yet.
Ward, who has worked wonders on the right wing.
Jorge Grant, who pushed left wing for Notts and won himself a contract
Osborn, I'd rather see him in #10 as he's not got the pace but has a great cross in him
Brereton, I'd rather see in the centre but will probably play right side of a front 3

And this is all for a team that plays with a rotating front 3.

    We need to sign;
a loan player who thinks we're beneath him so doesn't put in any effort,
a central midfielder who tore the Swiss 3rd division apart three seasons ago,
a striker who will be a bad influence on the dressing room,
a defender who gets injured so often he spends more time on the golf course than the training ground,
a midfielder who is at least half a stone overweight,
a utility player who can be the scapegoat for all of the above.

I don't think that's too much to ask.

Carayol played some decent games come the end of the season but he shouldn't be starting in our team. He should be nothing more than a bit part player.
Warburton must not rate Ariyibi otherwise he would of at least made the bench when at the time we were desperate for wingers.
    Ward is dog shit.
Grant has only proven it at lesgue two level and didn't play on the wing for Notts.
Brereton should not be played on the right. That's when his performances dropped off last season.

If Warburton wants to play his favoured 433 then he'll get his width from the full backs. He may decide to stick with Carayol & Aryibi as the specialist wingers & go into the market for a couple of wingbacks.

Your right though, we need some more genuine width from somewhere.

Carayol should be starting left wing every game for us. He's a game winner and proved it by running circles around Gunter, arguably one of the best right backs in the division

Warburton must not rate Ariyibi otherwise he would of at least made the bench when at the time we were desperate for wingers.
Or he didn't play him for the same reason as Berto, Anel, Edser etc - you don't chuck largely unproven young players into a relegation scrap in front of 15-18k fans in a toxic stadium

    Ward is dog shit.
No he's not. He almost singlehandedly won us the game against Ipswich

Grant has only proven it at lesgue two level and didn't play on the wing for Notts.
Fair enough on L2, but he did play left wing for them.

Brereton should not be played on the right. That's when his performances dropped off last season.
I agreed with that in my original post, but I still think Brereton has a lot to offer in a rotating front 3. Which I also said in my original post.

I think you're an alright lad Scott but you're talking some nonsense here.

With one addition as it stands, who may not even yet be a regular starter, we're probably looking at a relegation battle next season. As someone said above we haven't yet replaced Lansbury and Burke. Without those we won fewer points and would have gone down.

I'd spend the vast majority of the budget on an experienced midfielder and a full back.

It only takes a second to score a goal.

Carayol played well 3 or 4 times last season. That shouldn't make him a automatic starter.

Ward offers nothing more than commitment and energy. Anyone looking to do anything better in this league than be happy to survive shouldn't be starting a 36 year old Ward.

So he wouldn't play young players like Ariyibi who's got first experience yet it's ok to play Brereton every game? If he's that mentaly weak he shouldn't be playing at this level.

Fact is 99% of people agree we need more width. Probably why we are after wingers. Failing to do so but we do seem interested.

Carayol has bags of class. You're calling for wingers and you've got a proven championship game winner in the squad!

Brereton was already started by Brazil and already a regular first team player before Warburton came in.

Energy and commitment is something you have to have in this league. I'm not saying we need to sign another 10 Jamie Wards, but he has his value in the squad.

Fact is 99% of people want to sign Ronaldo. Doesn't mean its the opinion I agree with or what I believe is the right thing for the squad.

Carayol is not the player he was 4/5 years ago. He'll have a good game here out there that's it.

Ariyibi has experience though! More than Brereton.

For all the commmitment and energy Ward has there's very little end product. Not good enough.

Also it's not about people wanting unrealistic signings. But everyone can see but you we need more options in that area. We won't get them it seems but we need them.

We were pretty darn good at home after MW came in. A slight improvement on the road would see us fairly comfortably into mid table.

Think you're right about signings, holding central midfielder is priority, left back (to cover Traore when injured or when he's playing centre back) and another winger if Ariyibi doesn't step up in pre season.

Saying that, I wont hit the panic button if we don't get those signings. We've got enough to plod along until January and you never know, one of the kids might step up again - Gabriel, Anel, Iacovitti etc.

Provided we have one of Britt or Brereton, Clough or Osborn, Vaughan or Cohen who can start every game I wouldn't worry too much about relegation as they will give you the goals, assists and nous to pick up the points to keep us ticking.

We are short at the moment and need some players as soon as possible to give us a decent pre season. I know it's not as easy as that but the quicker the better. We need 1 GK 2 cbs, 1 rb, 1 DM, 1 winger and 1 Striker in my opinion. Also we have to keep Brit here if we can and only sell him for big bucks. His value shouldn't be his value on the market but what his value is to us and that's a lot especially with a 4 year contract.

Total overkill. More likely we will sell rather than buy what you've just said we need.

I don't know why we need another striker at the moment, but to me the single most important position that needs addressing is centre half. If Hobbs could stay fit, fine. But if we have the same 3 or 4 we had last season, every time a corner or free kick goes in the box; I'll be covering my eyes again!

Starting to sense a bit of panic and depression setting in because we've only made one signing and we've had offers for Britt. Relax and enjoy the summer. None of us know what's really happening behind the scenes but be mindful were not the same draw for players we once were.

It's becoming a bit of a bugbear of mine, this 'no end product' stuff.

How do we define it exactly? 80% of crosses reaching the head or foot of a striker? Scoring with how many shots on target percentage?

Ariyibi hasn't exactly got the best scoring record although he looks like he has plenty of talent. Jamie Ward has actually proven himself to be better in and around the box.

If you're talking about wingers like Anthony Knockaert that are much more potent around the penalty area, how much would they cost?

Turning around the dire away results wont happen with the current squad, a change of mentality and an increase in physical presence is needed. Either that or we sign six Germans like Huddersfield did and get both.

based on the CURRENT squad and everyone fit, starting 11 for Millwall is, in a 4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3 set up

    Smith,
    Lichaj, Mancienne, Worrall, Traoré,
    Vaughan, Cohen,
    Ben, Clough, Osborn
    Assombalonga,

Not that excited, especially when MM, AT, CC, DV are injured so much, and then we talk Mills, Hobbs, Cash, Carayol as the main back ups.

Far too early to panic about signings. Most clubs at this stage have only made about 1 or 2 signings, July is when things should start moving.

So far we have signed a promising young striker, tied our most promising young player to a new contract and have not lost anyone significant yet. That's not a bad start at all.

If things are still the same in about 4 weeks time then I will start to worry, but at this stage it's really not worth getting all worked up over things.

People should attempt to provide solutions than just highlight the problems.
Its easy to complain, but half the people on here (me included), would probably make worse decisions than fawaz if in charge.
