    Default Stars on our shirt

Was looking at a bunch of other clubs 2017 shirts at work and something suddenly dawned on me that I never noticed - no other clubs seem to have stars on their shirts

According to wikipedia, there are only a couple of other clubs who have these, and the reasons for them are often dubious:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_(football_badge)

So apart from us we have:

Villa with 1 star for their 1982 European Cup win
Bury with 2 stars for winning the FA cup in 1900 and 1903
Huddersfield with 3 stars for being the first team to win the first division 3 times in a row between 1924 and 1926
Ipswich with 3 stars for winning the First Division 1962, FA Cup in 1978 and UEFA cup in 1981
Notts County 1 star (added in 2013) for the 1894 FA cup win
Yeovil Town with 3 stars to commemorate 15 seasons in the football league.

That's some company to be in, right?

So this now strikes me as a bit Mickey Mouse, almost like having goal music played when you lost 1-4.

I'm not trying to say we should forget the past but... well maybe we do need to let it lie a bit... is it just me?

I think having stars on your shirt for being the best club in Europe is fine. Anything else is Mickey Mouse.

I notice most of the other clubs who I assumed had stars for being European Champions actually have them for winning domestic titles. One star = ten titles seems to be the going rate for,Juve, Bayern etc.

I like our two stars though, despite the cheap tacky 'fake' stars of some other clubs. They remind me of the cringeworthy 'awards' given out on schools sports days - the certificate for breathing in and out etc...

Obviously crap little community clubs like Notts County are taking the piss - they may as well have "We are desperate to be noticed" emblazoned across their shirts.

Should only be for a European Cup or World Cup win.

Anything else just smacks of desperation and seems meaningless.

I like them. I don't care why other teams have stars on their shirt, I know why our stars are there.

What is the highest prize in European club football?

    The European Cup.

It is therefore only right that the achievement of winning that trophy is recognised.

    Anything else is just piddling.

We could probably get away with not having them at all, TBH.

We're lucky enough to have a unique name and identity throughout the football world.

    Forest!!!

Stars and such like is for your common as muck uniteds, city's and rovers, trying to stand out from the crowd.

I like the two stars and their significance, but I like Nottingham Forest far more.

    Silver star for European Cup

    Gold for World Cup

    Anything else is tin pot.

Was it Umbro that started with this trend in 05? Think it was the home shirt we got relegated to league one in. Silver stars on the side of the shirt. Snazzy

You're right mate. And remember, we didn't have them at all until the 25th anniversary of the first one, in 2004.

But Forest are a globally known name, thanks of course to our most successful manager, Mr. Clough.

I have travelled a lot, around the world, and most places I've gone to, when the talk turns to football, and the inevitable "who is your team?" question, well, everyone has heard of Nottingham Forest.

The reply is usually a smile, followed by "ah! Brian Clough!"

Edited for basically repeating what's already been said above.

Which made the decision under ND/MA to wear them on the sleeve a baffling one. As if they were embarrassed by the association.

To be honest i'm not too keen on the stars. Give me a proper plain shirt any day of the week. No stars, no sponsors, no logos, no gimmicks, just the good old Forest tree on a red shirt, just like pre - 1980s.

I remember me Mam stitching a number 10 on my first Forest top (long sleeve) back in 1971, and a red stripe down the side of my white shorts ready for school 'sports day'. Thems were the days.

Two silver stars for European cups and a gold one for the European Super Cup.
Keep them; few will be able to claim better, although the Sky-sponsored super-rich may put us in the shade. At least when we entered the european cup, it was for WINNING the league (or the european cup), not just for finishing 4th.
    Just saying.

It's a good point. What point do the stars serve? That we used to be good. I'd rather we were a bit more humble about our current position rather than harking back to days gone by

The European Cup is the highest honour a Club rather than Country can win so I say Gold stars for both.

They also serve the purpose as a reminder to many who forget that the European Cup did exist before the 'Champions' League

Spot on, it didn't ought to be allowed for anything other than European cup wins like it's intended to indicate.

Teams using them for anything else are taking the piss and it shouldn't be allowed by the fa.

Would love for us to be able to wear the badge of honour one day.

Need 3 more wins yet though.ucl-honors-badge-5-cups.jpg
