Looks a decent possible loan centre back.

Saw this one pop up on Twitter yesterday. Seems a bit of a strange one considering it's an area we're pretty well stocked in unless the majority of Mills, Fox, Perquis, Lam and Hobbs are leaving. I saw that he can play in midfield as well so he must be comfortable on the ball.

    No thanks.

Would rather us sign no one than bring a bunch of loan signings in, particularly when it comes to loaning other clubs young players and putting them ahead of our own academy players.

Next season should be about building a foundation for the future, not pissing more money up the wall on short term fixes.

While I agree with you in a sense, I never understand the anti-loan ideology that a lot of people have.

If they are good players they can benefit both clubs. You also aren't lumbered with a player for a long time if they turn out to be average.

If we use the loan market well they can benefit us like it has many clubs in the Championship.

Loan signings have their place, particularly if you need a short term boost (for example, if you are gunning for promotion and need to strengthen in January), however signing players on loan in a summer when we are trying to build something for the long term is a waste of time and money in my opinion.

I'm also not a fan of loaning other clubs youngsters and playing them over our own young players, I'd rather us develop our youngsters than someone else's.

Surely, you're not suggesting that the Nottingham Post lifted this from Twitter!!

He's a centre half defensive midfielder. I'd rather we pushed Lam on into that role

It's a non starter and not a cat in hells chance of happening! We've all read that Warburton wants a trimmed squad and wants to sign 4-5 perm players. Why would he start off signing someone on loan before he's signed the players he wants on a perm? Unless good players (like Spurs with a few youngsters in midfield who have played a few games) then I see no point in signing an average defender who's played for Birmingham City - yes that club who also survived on the last day of the season! Doesn't exactly fill you with hope does it?!

I've no opinion either way on this one, but pinning what appears to be a significant amount of the blame for Birmingham only surviving on the last day on this lad seems a bit harsh.

    That would be a scandal.

Unless a loan signing is gonna get us promoted I don't see the point. Especially at cb! Got too many of the useless fuckers. Get a team of players that will improve for us

In these days of FFP good loan signings are just about an essential ingredient of any club aspiring to gain promotion to the Premier League.
I'm certainly hoping that 2 of the 4 or 5 players that MW is after will be quality loanees - leaving cash free for decent permanent signings.

Why do people persist with this view that loans are almost free? You pay wages and a loan fee. In fact they are worse from an FFP point of view because you are left with no asset to resell, just a complete cost.

For example compare the McCormack loan with the Clough signing. One is just a cost to the club that takes away from FFP and the other is a long term asset which at best we can make a profit on, at worst the transfer fee is amortised over several seasons.

We don't know how much a club in the Championship will pay to secure a loan deal. Could go either way - a big PL club might not be too bothered about £250k (small fee plus wages)if it means their player gets guaranteed starts.

We'll pay much less for a youngster loan than an established player like McCormack.

Quite a lot of youngsters from Premier League clubs have quite large loan fees actually, particularly if they are highly rated. We paid a large sum for Nathaniel Chalobah if I recall, for example. Premier League clubs don't send out their best youngsters on the cheap.

I dread to think how much money this club has wasted on loan fees and wages over recent years, very few of which actually added anything worthwhile to the squad. I'd much rather us invest money into signing talented young players from the lower leagues or abroad then pay Chelsea, Arsenal and company a king's ransom to train their academy players for them.

I did a quick search and there's nothing anywhere obvious about a fee for Chabolah. Transfermarkt doesn't have a fee and they're usually spot on, which suggests either they don't know or it was a free.

I dunno, usually it seems like any fees for loans aren't reported.

I am sure Huddersfield are gutted they got Izzy Brown and Aaron Mooy on loan. Two players key in getting them promoted. I also bet Bristol City fans are also raging Tammy Abraham was brought in and scored the goals to keep them up.

Sometimes these loans work out (like the examples above), sometimes they don't (pretty much anyone who Forest seem to bring in) but we have to trust our scouts and manager to identify these guys who will make us better.

With regards to ffp, nobody has a clue about the loan fee's paid or the % of the wages we pay. So to speculate seems frivolous to me. Again it's about trusting MW & CMc to get value for money.

We have had some successful loans in recent seasons.

Aaron Ramsey, for one brief period, he looked absolute class.
