Sad news. A motor racing legend, and the only 2 wheel and 4 wheel world champion. Also a lovely bloke by all accounts.
    Scandalously never received a knighthood.
Will also be remembered for his charity work with the Henry Surtees Foundation in memory of his son who was killed in a Formula 4 race at Brands Hatch.

    RIP.

World champion on 2 wheels and four.
    Enough said.
Was a really heartfelt tribute from Murray Walker on R5 earlier.

    RIP John.

Yeah would agree. I remember back in 2013 there was a petition to get John Knighted.

But he always came across as such a humble guy, he probably wasn't bothered!

A nice tribute from the Guardian:

And also, a lovely tribute from Ferrari, for whom he won the Formula One World Championship:

    Class from the Italian marque.

    RIP.

One of the greatest, his 7 bike championships always get eclipsed by his F1 success but he won 350 and 500cc titles in the same year not to mention the TT wins.

    A legend.
