Default Matchday 17: Nottingham Forest v Stoke City

Too early for a match thread? Nah!

    Nottingham Forest v Stoke City

    01 Jan 2005 Nottingham Forest v Stoke City W 1-0 League Championship
    26 Sep 2018 Nottingham Forest v Stoke City W 3-2 League Cup

    Current Form

Forest are back on a high after knocking Sheff Utd of the top of the table. That 1-0 win continues the fantastic record of only failing to score in 1 match throughout all competitions this season. We have scored in every home match.

Stoke haven't conceded more than one goal in any of their last 6 matches. Those last 6 have only seen 7 goals in total. 5 scored by Stoke, just 2 conceeded.

    Factapalooza

Stoke haven't won at Forest in 6 encounters, including the recent vistory for Forest in the League Cup
This is the first league meeting between the sides in almost 14 years
Stoke are sometimes also called 'The Potters' in respect to life member J K Rowling
Rather than the usual coach space, Stoke like to drive staight onto the pitch and park in front of their own goal in preparation for the match.

    Prediction

Stoke seem to have sorted their defence out but are also still struggling to score so not expecting many goals here. 1-1

Stoke have a rather bizarre current form.

Only scored 5 goals from 6 games, so you think they'd be on somewhat of a downward trajectory, but they're averaging almost 2PPG from those sixing, beating Norwich and Bristol City away and getting decent draws against Sheff Utd and Middlesborough, before succumbing at home to Birmingham.

So they have form against the top six away from home, so three points here would be a great result and a draw wouldn't be end of world.

Should be another tight one, but I fancy Forest to conjure something out of the bag again; Forest 1, Shit Trainers 0, Tobias Figuerado with a Header from close-range.

I still reckon Stoke will finish in the top six.

A point would be fine, but another tight 1-0 would be very very nice.

    This will be very tough.

I think they've tightened up in recent weeks and they have a lot of talent in their side.

That said, they don't seem to have a playing style as such. I think it's going to be a case of another tight game and looking to break them down with a bit of quality.

I agree with Ravi that they will probably finish top 6.

Shame Tom Ince wont be playing, but we'll just have to give James McClean a barrage of shit instead.

I suppose we'll have to endure the annual McLean poppy protest, too.

I hope that the team don't sit back thinking "we've already dicked this lot", and give a lack-lustre performance a la Burton.
Jacob has to retain his place - Colback on the bench for this one.
Assuming everyone who played v Blades is fit I would keep the same starting line-up.
Unless we give Karim a start, leaving Grabban to come on second half.
Karim will be an unknown quantity for Stoke to have to contend with, and it could make a difference.
They will already know about Jacob, him having been a Premier League player last year.
Given the uncertainties as to whether we can keep the momentum going, I won't even try to forecast a result.

Let's see what shithouse Rowett will come up with to disrupt/change the game this time.

Bit of a banana skin this one, they are playing well recently and have some very good players still.

    I think it'll be a draw.

    Last 3 Stoke away games:

    Norwich (1-0 win)
    Sheffield United (1-1 draw)
    Bristol City (1-0 win)

I'm glad Ince is out. It's good fun giving him shit all game but he looked well up for it when he came on for Stoke in the cup earlier this season.

I'm struggling to call this one. We can forget what happened in the cup against them and a fair few of their side will want to settle a score. Their forwards are going to be a real handful so Dawson defo needs to be in for this one as does Yacob because of how he disrupts play in front of them.

I expect this to be simliar to Sheff Utd expect with them having much more threat in the final third.

Despite what happened during his time here Ince is a very good player. Mind you, they will still be able to replace him with someone like Clucas, Bojan or Mame Diouf so its not all good news.

Would take the draw but feel we may scrape this one....believe it will be a similar game to the Sheff Utd one. But it’s the championship and predicting results is some what an impossibility.

There will be a meltdown on here if we fail to win. Karanka's head will be demeaned and the end of a promotion push declared.

Whatever happens, I'm assuming Gary Rowetts footwear will come under close scrutiny.

Stokes league form is something of an enigma, having seen them here in the cup, if they replicate what they did first & last 20 mins we could be in for a tough afternoon. Hopefully Rowetts negative style can continue to stifle them for another week.

Hopefully we go in unchanged, Id happily take a draw.

When I posted I didn't realise there was a whole thread dedicated to him. The guy does seem to push his ideas a bit too forcefully.

That's why he keeps folk looking at the ball in the air for 90 mins.

    Also pleased Ince is out.

Another tight game, it could be unbelievably boring as well. I'd be very happy with another 1-0 win but wouldn't be disappointed with a draw either.

    1-0 Forest.

Seems harsh to be banned or rested for pointing out that some Stoke fans are uneducated cavemen.

    I think he's too polite.
