Default Nottingham Forest Supporters Trust (NFST)

A bit of news regarding the new 'supporters trust' - membership went live today http://www.nffctrust.org/

I couldn't see any threads on the subject (apologies if I have missed it) so thought it'd be good to start a debate. I'm actually surprised none of the organisers have been canvassing the boards - one criticism is they haven't done a great job of getting the word out.

It costs £12 annually and how it works is £1 is set aside and converted into one share. All members will therefore have equal share regardless of how much they pay in. The other £11 is used for running costs and 'investment'. There will be democratic elections to appoint a board. They say no board members stand to profit and work on a voluntary basis.

They say their short term aim is to hold the club into account. Longer term they want to be in a position to buy a stake in the club should the opportunity arise. (So your one share in the trust would then be a share in the club)

As I understand it they are using the general framework of a trust supplied by Supporters Direct (http://www.supporters-direct.org/) which is a campaign to increase fans influence in the game. I think SD's most famous 'case study' was rebuilding Wimbledon FC after MK Dons happened. Chesterfield was also saved by a Supporters Trust in 2001.

Who will be signing up? Sceptical perhaps? Personally I think it could be a success given the current climate.

You make a valid point about failing to get their message out.

I haven't a clue what their objectives are, and after the naive hot air of "fans4stability" (ouch) their marketing needs some work.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

Agreed. I thought someone posted on here recently about setting one up, but that's from memory. Perhaps I'm thinking of one of the many attempts to mobilise fans which have been decried for various reasons.

The trust was announced a while back however it is only a fully functional as of today because they've only just got round to inviting membership and hence establishing a proper structure.

Not to be confused with the 'fans for stability' thing chriscl mentioned - if I recall they had a 'manifesto' of sorts and they set up some meetings with one of Fawaz's cronies but the general view was it was just a couple of fans who wanted to be superfans.

There was a little flash on SSN short while ago about the Supporters Trust trying to get the CG posted as an important civic amenity because they fear Fawaz is going to mortgage the place. Any news from the Trust on that ?

I signed up today after that press release. That was a good enough signal of intent for me.

I've signed up as well. But as I'm not on Facebook or Twitter the only way I'll get any updates is via this thread.

Good luck to them, they'll bloody need it, as anyone who's tried to involve Rushcliffe Borough Council in any ACV scheme will know (such as the local CAMRA branch who've tried to get ACV status for many threatened pubs in Rushcliffe, only to have their attempts fall on deaf ears from the council).

    Who are they, exactly?

They have a Twitter account and a website, but I've read both and I can't any names associated with it, nor membership numbers nor anything else of real substance.

With Stan Collymore throwing his support behind them, whoever they may be, is it too much to ask for some transparency?

The first rule of joining the Trust is you don't talk about who is in the Trust.

Since then... >a couple of people are no longer involved owing to other commitments but otherwise remains same.

worth pointing out that ALL interim board members will step down in May as all positions will need to be elected via the AGM. There are no 'free passes' for the interim board.

So that's Tom Newton of Fans4Stability fame.

I don't know who Richard Antcliff is. Is it this person: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Antcliff ?

Where are the 'pen portraits' and why aren't they on the website?

They have told me that once they have a fully elected board, their profiles with be on the website.

Agreed, it's surprising that they've not made any official introductions and announcements via LTLF given how many Forest fans look at this forum, possibly the largest/most popular Forest forum?

How difficult would it be for the acting chair etc. to make some posts and do some Q&As about intended goals and aims etc.

The website is simply OK but as a trust they really should have more detail on it about board members, latest news, meeting agendas, meeting minutes etc. Some images would be nice as the site is very dry as it is.

I'm a bit disappointed that the trust doesn't have a decent acronym. I mean, NFST doesn't roll off the tongue easily.

But presumably to take part in those elections you have to pay £12 to become a member, which is giving £12 to an organisation who don't currently say who is running it.

One of the major issues with Fawaz is that we don't know who is doing what at the club and how they are qualified. And now we've got a supporters' trust apparently following a similar model of secrecy.

You know who these chaps are then Bryan?

Because to be honest - and pass this on of you do know 'em - they'd maybe have more success on getting fans to put their hands in their pockets (like me) if there was a little more accountability?

I'm not comfortable giving £12 to a fairly anonymous website. Press releases or not.
