This morning, our CEO has announced the entire large German conglomerate will be carbon-neutral globally throughout over 400 sites, by the end of 2020.

    I‘m quite proud of that.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

Carbon doesn't bother me one way or the other so I'm very much carbon neutral

It's when it gets to cereals that bothers me. Just regular fibre for me, none of this carbon fibre.

Well ,actually, they asked and he told them to "fuck off", that's why he got the fine and as he was arrested he was required to show his face. Depends how it would have gone if he politely refused.

Is it actually a crime to tell a copper to fuck off? Not polite yes, but hardly a crime?

Public order offence with a fixed penalty but it depends on the cop as far as I'm aware.

From many years ago but still true.

They would probably arrest the late and great Mel Smith for this now?

The completely irrelevant information of the day: it's far from certain that modern Ithaca is the Homeric Ithaca. According to one theory Homeric Ithaca is the western part of Kephalonia; according to another it's none other than your very own Lefkas.

A very scary read but full marks to the journalist for writing it:
So much for gun free Britain?

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/extra/595..._crime_hotspot

I began gathering reports. An FOI submitted by a local newspaper showed that, from when Yassar Yaqub was killed in January 2017 to August 2018, more than*95 incidents*involving firearms had occurred in the Kirklees district (of which Huddersfield is the largest town). In the two years prior to Yassar’s death, there were almost another 100 firearms-related incidents in the same area. This meant that, at that time, there had been almost 200 incidents involving guns reported in my area in less than four years.

Of course there are guns in the UK.

Your conflation of their existence with the gun-laws is another of one of your big picture compare and contrasts that completely miss the point.

If there were a gun licensing law in the UK, the criminal underworld would still have unlicensed weapons and there would still be incidents. There would just be a lot more of them.

If you would like a big picture comparison, there are licensing laws for both alcohol and cars. There is still unlicensed drivers and unlicenced alcohol in circulation.

So you agree with the old adage that "If you outlaw guns then only the outlaws will have guns."?

This excellent piece goes into far more than just the illegal gun issue.

There are in Guns in the UK because there is crime worth defending in the UK, especially drug crime.

There nothing especially unique in that story. I know you're wanting to make about British Pakistani Muslims, but it's not. It's about Drugs.

Drugs trade in the UK doesn't have racialised boundaries, it has gangs that has string group identies of which race, religion and nationality is part of it.

In Liverpool, the drugs trade is controlled largely by Europeans: British, Irish, Rusian, Albanians. They control it with guns. Guns permeate down the supply chain. However, the cops reckon that while there are a lot of guns, there is a lot of re-use of the same weapons in shootings, most of which are 'victim free' warning shots, which are about enfornment of gang control.

This is nothing special. This will be true of pretty much everywhere.

A quick search on Sutton-in-Ashfield Shootings brings up the same shit. Most of that is Bryn and his Mrs have a Friday noght out on the local saloon bars.

Actually my concern is that if the authorities allow this to continue it simply feeds the narrative of those who WILL use it to sow the seeds of racism and violence.

This is the problem with the Community Cohesion BS, it makes the problem worse not better. I suspect the author of this piece feels the same.

Just going to chip in with a plug for Neil Woods' 'Good Cop, Bad War' book. Really interesting insight into how the Drug Trade has changed since the early 90s from a coppers POV
