Why did they not do one for this season?

The last memory that I have of him playing for us Ravi is that your sticker would've probably done a better job one bleak Saturday afternoon in a defeat at Oldham when he partnered Peter Withe.

Such was Butlin's effect on that game, the following midweek, Cloughie decided to team PW up with Tony Woodcock for an 'away' Anglo-Scottish cup-tie (Ayre United IIRC?). The rest is well-documented history.

Wanted to get some of the 60's guys who weren't in the peak 60's team or '59 Cup winners. So basically early 60's give or take. Guys like Calvin Palmer & Geoff Vowden. Already got Joe Wilson, Flip Le Flem, Alan Hinton & Colin Addison for example in decent pics on previous page.

Peter Grummitt, Calvin Palmer, Bobby McKinlay
Colin Addison, Geoff Vowden, John Quigley, Flip Le Flem

I know Addo from my time living in Hereford.
A good bloke who - well into his 70's now - is as fit as a flea.

Calvin P really was a highly regarded wing-half who, on the evidence of his early days in the first-team, was predicted to be a genuine contender for a place in the England '66 World Cup squad, 2 or 3 years in the future.

However, as inevitably happens with many promising young players, he failed to maintain his performance levels on a consistent basis. There was a lot of talk around Nottingham at the time about him adopting a playboy-type attitude (this was the time when George Best and other young players were beginning to be compared with pop stars) and after an apparent fall out with the manager, he was moved on to Stoke City.

He didn't do too bad at Stoke by all accounts, but he never achieved the heights that were predicted for him.

When did you live in Hereford? Born and bred there.
Used to see him a lot in the Cock of Tupsley.

In the original post, I notice that Asa Hartford is in the 1978/9 team picture. That was the year I went to uni up in Scotland. Before I left there was all the excitement of signing him in the local papers. I'd hardly been there 5 minutes when we'd sold him at a £100,000 loss.

Anyone know what happened? Did he have a bust up with Cloughie?

Iirc it was more of a football decision. Cloughie realised he'd made a mistake in signing him. It's true to say that for whatever reason the midfield didn't seem to work with Asa in there. We suddenly seemed very flat and disjointed with him in the team. Cloughie wasn't a man to keep flogging what he saw as a dead horse and suddenly Asa was sold. Even though it was only three games (?), no one was too surprised.

Either of you remember a firm of auctioneers called Coles Knapp and Kennedy? That was my grandad.

    Oh FFS.

Don't know of the auctioneers but lived in Hereford from 1990 - 2005. Lived about half a mile from Cock @ Tupsley - involved with Westfields FC.

Thanks Ravi. I must admit 300 miles away and with only the national newspapers (and scottish versions at that) for info, it came as a surprise to me.

Where did you work? What involvement did you have with Westfields?

Ross, Hereford, Monmouth. Depends what age you are as I think they disappeared in the late 80s. Probably taken over. My grandparents lived in Ross.

My own company is named after them as a nod backwards.

Far be it from me to disagree with you Ravi, but it was anything but a football decision to part company so relatively quickly with AH, believe me. Frustrating I know, but without revealing the details on a public forum of what I was told very shortly afterwards by one of his former Forest teammates, it was done with the full agreement of the club and Hartford.

Can't say I do TT - and I was GM for several years.
    Before my time perhaps?
