Slightly off topic but my first ever game was at Notts County v Barrow in the mid sixties - I was invited by a school friend and we went with his Dad. I remember it was cold and pretty grim - it's a wonder it didn't put me
off footy all together. I reckon my first visit to the City Ground would've been circa 68/69. The players I remember included:

    Peter Grummit
    John Winfield (I think)
    Sammy Chapman
    Peter Hindley (Tank)
    Terry Hennessey
    Henry Newton
    Barry Lyons
    Alan Hinton (I think)
    Ian Storey Moore (utter genius)

I have a feeling the manager was Matt Gillies. Fans of the time would remember the demonstrations towards the end of his reign - 'Gillies Out'. Those were the days - the Trent End had an amazing atmosphere but the pre-Cloughdecline had set in and we had some grim times ahead.

Without dragging the programme out of the loft I'd guess it was something like this:

    Peter Shilton
    Viv Anderson
    Larry Lloyd
    Kenny Burns
    Frank Gray
    Raimondo Ponte
    Gary Mills
    John McGovern
    John Robertson
    Ian Wallace
    Trevor Francis

It was night match v Birmingham City, 1980/81.

I think it was a 2-2 draw vs Tottenham in 83/84 with Forest goals by Colin Walsh and Steve Hodge, and Tottenham ones by Chris Hughton and Mark Falco.

I don't remember the goals but seem to think Thijssen was playing, and Colin Todd was out injured.

I think I was in the lower Exec (BC) probably.

But without Bridportred I can only seem to find the Tottenham line-up (Ardiles was playing I notice) and not the Forest one!

Ravi and some others might be able to have a good stab at it. Viv Anderson was still at right back I think.

I was only 5, hence the uncertainty.

Pretty impressive that some of you are remembering full line-ups though, although I guess you might be using a programme or something! I don't think I'll have one from 83/84, although I remember having one when I was younger that showed Raynor and Riley having a spell in the Forest side and Mark Smalley being involved.

I remember Martin O'Neil getting sent off in a night match against Brum in a night match for chinning/slapping/doing absolutely nothing to someone. I don't think I had ever seen anyone get sent off before that. Would that have been the same game?

I'm not sure mate, it was all a blur to a 9 year old me to be honest. The whole occasion blew my mind, the crowd, the floodlights, the noise in the Trent End with their air horn...

After researching recently I can tell you it was the first home game of that season, Wednesday 20th August. We won 2-1.

I reckon that mine would be similar to Oldmanred and Frankwignall as it as the first game of the 1965/66 season and I was still living in the North East then. It was a good game and a 2-2 draw was a fair result; only downside was sometime in the second half some bastard (a fellow North Easterner - I won't call him a Geordie)nicked my fags out of my jacket pocket.

My first game was round about this time. I don't remember Crowe tho. All the rest are imprinted on my brain. I met Ian Storey Moore and Henry Newton and they were 2 really decent friendly guys. A credit to themselves and our great club. After an away game at Stoke in 1970-71 season I was ****hhiking back from Nottingham to Grantham )I'd been on the football special to Stoke) and Ian Storey Moore stopped and gave me a lift as far as Bingham, in what I think was a Morris 1000.........a different world indeed.

Do you mean on the telly or at the ground?

My first match on the telly was about 1988, but I've no idea who we were playing. My only memory was of Hans Segers taking a goalkick!

My first proper match at the City Ground was on 1st Novemnber 1997 vs Crewe. We won 3-1 with two PVH free-kicks and a Campbell goal, if I recall correctly!

Wouldn't have been my first game, but the game I was mascot of is the first one I remember properly. VS Crystal Palace on 19/2/2000

Squad would have been something like:

    Dave Beasant

    Mathieu Louis Jean
    Jon Olav Hjelde
    Ricky Scimeca
    Alan Rogers

    Chris Bart Williams
    Nigel Quashie
    Ian Woan
    David Prutton

    Stern John
    Marlon Harewood

I didn't realise at the time that Cloughie was just starting to rebuild the side that would come to fruition 4-5 years later with another flurry of trophies. This wasn't long after they'd got to the semi-final of the EUFA Cup, IIRC, so even this 'fallow' period midway between the two trophy-winning periods they were still pretty good.

The crowd on that day was a pretty paltry 14,000. Worth noting in reference to discussions in other threads about the changes in attendance numbers.
