Default West Ham's Dodgy Olympic Stadium Deal

Thought I'd post few articles now it has emerged that West Ham are getting a very favourable deal which basically takes the piss giving them an unfair advantage over other sides, what with their ridiculously low rent etc! Something stinks about the whole deal in my opinion! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33780720

Only read snippets but not surprised.
West Ham are an institution in English Football (their players won the 66 World Cup you know) and have always been popular in the the right circles.
Nice to know tax payers money has eventually gone on a commercial football business, or am I wrong?

This is what should be done with an Olympic Park stadium.

I watched a documentry about this not sure if it was Panorama a couple of months ago, it reported that Gold and Sullivan would pay something around 2 to 3 million rent on the stadium, this includes the supply of virtually everything including goal posts, nets, corner flags and all security staff and payments for policing not to mention light bulbs the list is exhaustive, the estimated cost was 8 to 10 million above the rent being paid
Totally outrageous, this allows them to sell tickets for less than half price.

Where does this fit in with the whole 'fair play' thingy? We still doing that?

West Ham's annual rent for the 700 million pound stadium in gentrified East London with its own transport hub for the Jubilee Line, Central Line, the DLR, the overground, around 12 platforms for overland trains and the Eurostar:

    around 2.5 million

The annual salary West Ham are paying Andy Carroll after his 7 goals in 2.5 years:

    around 4.1 million

    Good skills, Boris.

That's what you get, having Karren Brady on your Board of Directors.

She probably quite easily outsmarted old Boris.

Mind you, I reckon my dog could give him a run for his money in the intelligence stakes.

Thing is West Ham had London over a barrel with this. Don't want to let us have the stadium on a cheap rent? Fine, let it stand empty.

They should have let the Olympic Stadium become the new national football stadium, and not bothered redeveloping Wembley. London now has Wembley, Olympic, Twickenham and Emirates as 60k plus grounds. Most of them stand empty most of the year.

    It's a good point.

In Germany, they never bothered having a national stadium - the Nationalmannschäft simply tours around Germany, playing its matches in the larger club grounds.

This also means that German fans all over the country get to see their team without having to trek to the nations' capital.

Wembley was redeveloped several years before London was awarded the Olympics, so using the Olympic stadium instead of, was never an option because it came too late.

I don't think discarding nearly a 100 years of history in favour of playing England games and FA Cup finals at places like Old Trafford and the Emirates was ever an attractive option either.

I don't think playing England games around the country would be a problem actually - it may actually be a positive, but not the FA Cup final. That wouldn't be right, and Wembley cannot exist on a couple of cup finals every spring.

Aren't we being a bit hypocritcal here. I agree that West Ham have done extremely well by becoming the sitting tenants of the Olympic Stadium for what appears to be a peppercorn rent, however, weren't Forest lining up a new stadium that would predominantly have been paid for by the taxpayers of the UK, if the country had won the rights to the World Cup. ND had a few bob but there was no way that he could have financed a new ground on his own.

Boris won't even be the next Tory leader, never mind PM.
Gideon's got pole position for that gig.

This once-great nation would have truly fallen from grace with a clown like Boris at the helm. Imagine the embarrassment he'd be at international summits... His affable buffoon act can only take him so far though, and I'd fully expect him to unleash the ultra Tory within as soon as he got within grasp of power. He'd make PR Dave look like a cuddly leftie puppy.
