Mayo is bland fat on plate at the best of times, but anybody putting it on a sausage sandwich shouldn't really be allowed out in public.

See it. Say it. Sort it.

When I read the first half dozen words of this post I thought it was about Simon Mayo.

It remains the most underrated programme the beeb ever broadcast.

There's no higher praise that can be given to a radio programme other than to say "it's like 'Home Truths'".

It was the only reason I listened to the radio on Saturday mornings.

If you're curious about Danny Baker's work, look up some back catalogue "Danny Baker Show" from radio 5 and find some instances of "Monkeys dressed as famous people, with circus music." You'll see his tweet in a slightly different light.
I agree with your critique of "Home Truths" - one of a number of "must listen" programmes of my past.
That and Annie Nightingales Request Show which used to air on a Sunday evening when I was at Uni stick in my mind as great radio.
I have always found Baker to be not to my taste.
Maybe it is because he is a squat, fat, hirsute (look it up), bigoted Landerner; maybe it is just that whenever I gave his programme a listen I found he had nothing really worth saying, but he said it anyway.

John Peel > anyone else, really.

Such a pity he’s no longer with us, he introduced me to so much good music.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

And his side-kick, John Walters was brilliant and I reckon his guidance and influence made Peel a better broadcaster.

I think he'll make us a better football team too, when he signs for us next season.

I really need to start downloading some pod casts for my escapades in the week.

Since xmas I've been an avid radio 4 listener mainly because it ain't all bullshit radio DJ jibber jabber.

Anyway the radio in my DAF is pretty shite and yesterday whilst stuck in middlewich I lost radio 4 and could only pick up radio 1 and radio 2.

It was like picking a nevilles brother to shag the wife.

Radio 1 is just shit, I never thought id live to see the day when popular culture just disgusts me but radio 1 and the things they say are cool has drawn me to the conclusion.

Which made me move onto radio 2 and Steve wright is it?

Can anybody explain to me what "jockin no g" is all about please? I contemplated driving my lorry down the verge and into the hedge rows so I didn't have to suffer that shit anymore.

Also anybody recommend any decent podcasts to while away the hours please, I'd like to learn something if possible please

I'm sure we've had a podcast thread around here before.

I've really enjoyed the Unbelievable True Crime podcasts. Looking at cases from police reports. Good amount of detail, but not so much it feels like you're sat in a weird history lesson.

The Reservoir Red Dogs one is really good as well, quite funny.

"Look it up" somewhat patronising I think. Especially as it's hardly relevant to Mr Baker is it?

Radio 1 and Capital do the same to me as well.

I've started to listen to Gold a lot at work, hardly any talking or adverts, music from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's.
It's a DAB station but you can also pick it up on AM.
    Failing that it's Smooth FM.

Give it a month or two and you'll be sick to the back teeth of the "House of the Rising Sun" and "Delilah"

I do enjoy the Golden Year in the mornings.

    Get Spotify Barry.

There’s lots of podcasts on there now and that side of the business is increasing.

    Haha

I like the in our times archive - pretty random but 10 years of archive on explanations of history/theory/phenomena - 45 mins per episode

Also quite good, the long view, taking something from current affairs and finding something similar in history - also a big archive

Then bbc podcasts, the untold, pretty random in-depth look at something in the news - general interest but informative

Then something I liked recently, Fatwah, a look back at Salm Rushdie and how it changed Islam in Britain, and Bias, a look at different types of bias - these are serirs that are like 10 x 15 mins

    I list some podcasts later

At work we have pitched battles over absolute 80’s and absolute 90’s depending when you were born. I’m in the 90’s gang as it was my teenage days. Depressing though as we have a couple of youngsters in now who were born in the 90’s!

When I was a kid radio 5 (before it was 5 live sport) used to have spoken word plays / dramas on between 9 and 10 at night. Two half hour slots Monday to Friday. I listened to all sorts like great expectations, woman in black, tales of the black museum, dragnet etc.. I love that medium. Maybe I was a weird kid but I’d flick that on every if that’s before bed. Loved it.

I have to go to a concrete place near Macclesfield where there has apparently been instances of fist fights over the radio station... the union got involved and the 4 departments get a week each throughout the month to play what they want.

Old boy who was telling me this is the stores guy who is one of the departments on his own. He says he spends most of his time cleaning up after everybody else so he gets his revenge on his week by playing non stop Disney safe in the knowledge nobody can complain.

When I was a teenager I used to listen to Radio Trent. Around midnight they used to play the Kenny Everett "Captain Kremenn" stories.

Some of those Trent presenters are were/now on Radio Nottingham.

By "relegation battle", do you mean 7th, 12th or 14th?

What about Audiobooks Barry? There must be a way to get some of those free. I've listened to a couple on YouTube but whilst sat at a PC.

Try and get Lolita, you'd really enjoy that
