    Default Pre season

I do enjoy my pre season games, so what pre season games do you think we will play this year? Is Portugal still going to continue as our warm weather training session? In the past we have been to Motherwell with the BD connection, Walsall with the Patterson deal, York (can’t remember the reason for that one) and Ilkeston for a good many years now but is that going to end this year with Steve Chettle leaving the club? I can’t see us playing Bolton/Palace with the DF connection but Southend United maybe? Being Dougie’s last club as a player..

As it's our 150th anniversary I reckon Yeovil and Sheffield United to remind us of better times.

I heard Germany was an option rather than Portugal. They were also trying to get Arsenal for our 150th.

I'm surprised this hasn't been sorted out with just six-odd weeks to go until the players return.

We don't know it hasn't. Also a lot of teams don't have it all sorted out by now. I think Dougie's priority wasn't sorting preseason when he took over

Perfect scenario would be a 4-team tournament at the City Ground with some big foreign names. Ideally something like Forest, Hamburg and Malmo for the historic connection, and maybe Ajax or one of the big Spanish 2.

Unlikely to happen though. To be honest Arsenal at home isn't really that thrilling either. Better than A 'Prestigious' tie against West Brom though

It'll be something naff, like inviting 150 random Season Ticket holders to have a go at the half-time "Golden Goal Gamble".

Our preseasons have always been pretty shit looking back. Even after our exotic Portuguese camp we played Spurs reserves instead of a decent Portuguese side at their own ground.

The Portugal run is a jolly boys outing seeing who can blow most 50 pound notes in the casinos.

Like Tropix says, get the puffed up fancy millionaires on something like the Embankment playing Carlton Town, Basford Utd, Poet's Corner etc

European Cup winning captain and Nottingham Forest club ambassador John McGovern says the Reds are working on plans to stage a pre-season match to celebrate the club's 150th anniversary.

At the end of March, rumours circulated that Forest would host a tournament in the summer at the City Ground as part of their celebrations – with Malmo and Hamburg as the opponents.

The Swedish and German outfits were the two sides Forest beat as Brian Clough guided them to the greatest moment in the club's history when winning the European Cup in 1979 and 1980.

But the club played down this speculation at the time as they look to come up with a fixture or set of games against the right opposition on a date that suits both or all parties.

McGovern himself is sitting on the committees looking into 150th birthday bash ideas and while nothing is close to being finalised, a match is something they are looking to stage in June or July before the 2015/16 Championship campaign gets underway.

"It's just a case of thinking what is the best thing to celebrate 150 years of the club, it's not just the era I was involved in that was a successful one," he told the Post.

"In 1898 and 1959 they won the FA Cup, so it's just a way of celebrating the club's history, working out the finer details and working out who's maybe available if you decide on certain dates to play matches.

"We're looking at trying to get one in probably pre-season because once the season starts if you get caught up in League Cup matches or replays you don't want to get into too many matches and find out you've got to play in a match purely for the club's 150th year.

"So, if we do decide, it will probably be done early part of the summer – which is beginning now – and played before the season starts because that would then benefit the manager himself, as once the season gets underway he doesn't need any more fixtures kicking in to cause him a problem."

But this is not to say Malmo or Hamburg will necessarily be the club to come to Nottingham for the occasion.

"It's all about availability," added McGovern, who was at the City Ground to present the trophies after the Forest v Derby charity fans match at the weekend.

"People obviously said 'we beat Malmo in the European Cup would they come over' or 'would Hamburg come over' and some people even threw at me Barcelona.

"Barcelona coming over with Lionel Messi playing here at the City Ground, whoever came up with that one can forget it right now!

"You can dream what you want, the reality is we will try to set up a game hopefully before the season starts so it doesn't interrupt the league programme."

And it is not just celebrations on the pitch in an anniversary style match which the Forest hierarchy will look to stage or support should fans want to come up with their own ideas or events.

"There will be lots of different things organised by lots of people and it is purely to celebrate Nottingham Forest Football Club having been formed 150 years ago," continued McGovern.

"I'm sure people will come up with some novel ideas and we are willing to listen to them all.

"The club has got a proud history, even going back to 1898 when we beat Derby County 3-1 to win the FA Cup, that's a long time ago.

"The club has won quite a few trophies since then. We are one of the club's that has a top league reputation and history and are well known all over Europe so just to celebrate the successfulness the club has had over the 150 years is great to be involved in."

Not sure I've enjoyed a pre-season since Hart in France.

Looks like the Portugal craze is set to end this summer.

I assume Arsenal's name came up because we once gave them a set of shirts. Perhaps we can have them back now.
