Thread: Poll on Title of a new book about Brian Clough

Default Poll on Title of a new book about Brian Clough

I'm looking for a quick bit of help and a bit of cheeky free market research.

I'd be delighted to have Forest fans help me decide, especially as the book revolves heavily around the reds.

The book is about a scruffy young kid from Sunderland who's life changes the moment him and his brother meet Brian Clough and the Forest team up in Sunderland. It's a story of the two sides of his life, before, during and after that meeting and it's a story that any time ANYONE hears about it, I've got to sit down and tell from start to finish, while they sit there not believing it's possibly true.

So...should it be option 1) or option 2)

    1) From Tough Life to Clough Life (that's the title I chose and it's the facebook page currently)

    or should it be

    2) Tell Them the Brian Clough story. (that's my new favourite due to the fact it's what I get asked every time I'm in a pub anywhere in the world :-))

Whether you intend to buy the book, support the project or neither, I'd still be keen to gauge reaction so feel free to vote. I'll close the voting when the thread drops of page one :-)

    thanks a lot.

I suggest not using capital letters for every word.

I could be wrong, but option 2 does seem like it might entice a few more people to buy it.

As for capital letters I'd say no capital T for them and instead a capital S for story might work best (although you probably weren't even thinking about that when enquiring about the title lol).

Good luck. Tempting if we don't have to pay in advance by Paypal I think!

Option 1 does probably make sense once the book has been read I guess though.

That's not a bad pun to be fair!

And I see now there is a capital S for Story on the poll anyway.

I like number two. It'll make people curious as to what the 'Brian Clough story' is (although I already know! ).

    It should be written as

Tell them the Brian Clough story...

So it looks like speech, which it is. With capitals people might mistake the second part for a subtitle of a biography, as in "Tell Them: the Brian Clough Story".

Yeah, fair point and on reflection I'd have to agree with Everyone in this case.
Although speech marks could be good to enhance the impression that somebody is saying to him "Tell him the Brian Clough story".

The Life of Brian (That's Mr. Clough to You Young Man)

Sorry, it looks like someone got in first with the Life Of Brian - http://www.brianclough.com/book2.htm

You never did tell me what you thought of those couple of chapters Alex, I'm not sure whether I should read anything negative into that at all, you did tell me you were a slow reader and it would take a while

Didn't I? Sorry! I remember enjoying it and being intrigued to see where it would go, I'll take another glance at it and see if it triggers anything I meant to feed back to you.

Glad to see it's nearing completion... how is it being published?

How about 'Not the Best Book About Brian Clough (but it's in the top 1)'

If there was a bow down emoticon, I'd be posting it in your direction RTC. Brilliant.

And that is just pure genius Cortez.

FFS, I hate you all. First of all hardly any votes, then secondly some brilliant ideas that I wish I'd thought of myself.

I think "Tell 'em that Brian Clough Story..." would do nicely.

How about "How about the rise & fall of Nottingham Forest."

I was just looking at some old Cloughie Quotes and saw this one on Who Ate all The Pies -

“I want no epitaphs of profound history and all that type of thing. I contributed. I would hope they would say that, and I would hope somebody liked me.”

It would seem quite nice to use his words if appropriate - "I contributed" - The Brian Clough Story.

It could be taken as Cloughie contributed to football and to Forest, to your life and perhaps how meeting you contributed to his. Not having read the story I don't know how or if your meeting him affected his life, but we are the sum of our actions and interactions aren't we?

    That's a brilliant suggestion, IRTD.

Craig, you're going to have write about five books to make use of all these titles.

Perhaps he can take the best titles and use them for sections of the book?
