    THOMASES 2 JAMESES 2

    EXTRA TIME BEING PLAYED

THOMASES are the only team to have won by virtue of a golden goal in this tournament. JAMESES have already won a penalty shoot out.

Substitute Capel crosses to Tommy Wilson who, being no stranger to big goals, evades McInally to head past Barron, giving the keeper no chance and sending the crowd wild!

It's emptied pretty quickly at JAMES end. What a fight they put up. The comeback kings of 2015. Jim Barron's mind must have be wondering to thoughts of another penalty shoot out, and wondering if he could be the penalty hero again. But it wasn't to be this time.

By contrast it is going to be some time before they can get these THOMAS fans out of the stadium. They've been put through the wringer again. Another gargantuan see-saw battle swung their way with the final kick. They're a united squad these THOMASES. There's Tommy Gaynor, an unused substitute today, soaking up the adulation of the fans and posing for selfies.

So the THOMASES are through to the semi-finals. Who will they meet?

We'll find out when the STEPHENS v play the COLINS next.

We expect that one at around half past four.

And so to our final Quarter-Final now. STEPHENS v COLINS.

    3.Steve Hodge (80/90s midfielder).

    5.Steve Wigley(80s midfielder)

    subs:
    6.Stephen Howe (90s forward)

STEVES set off in familiar vein, intricate passing moves taking them around the COLINS midfield until it's Wigley versus Cooper. A crunching tackle from Cooper wins the ball, and to the dismay of the crowd it's a route one ball to Addison who chests the ball down, turns Chettle and rifles a low shot past the diving Sutton. Goal to the COLINS.

    Fray goes mental.

Steves on the back foot again, but Sutton pulls off a triple save reminiscent of his heroics vs Tottenham. Barrett with a volley, Addison from Walsh's cut-back and then Barrett again see their efforts saved and the ball goes out of play as the last effort is tipped over the bar.

The Colin's try again, mastering flipping the ball over the heads of Hodge and Stone and then reverting to the ground passes but this time it runs through to Sutton who gives it quickly to Chettle and in 3 quick passes the Steves release Stone who puts the ball out of Doyles reach.

    Goal Steves!
Value of the star goalkeeper showing itself again.

We've one or two eighties fans in the Arena
    for this one.

    Steve Wigley
    WINGER 1981-85 (First Division)
2 goals in 82 games appearances

    Colin Walsh
    MIDFIELDER 1980-86 (First Division)
37 goals in 143 games appearances

This is a cagey affair, both teams are pretty strong. The STEVES have the better keeper, the COLINS the better striker.

70 minutes left in this one. Collindridge is off the bench and warming up for the first time this evening.

Steve Sutton is much the better keeper. And the STEPHENS play some nice stuff in the middle of the park, but they rely on runs from deep of Hodge to create anything. Against Cooper and Barrett, the best defence in the tournament, that is a forlorn tactic. The COLINS are are a more rounded team. Walshcenters for Addison who stoops to head in.

    GOAL! ADDISON!

    STEPHENS 1 COLINS 2

Colin Addison must be a candidate for the golden boot (assuming qualifiers don't count, of course).

Quite frankly I've skimped on today's play as I've been in Manchester on business; but catching up with the thread, what sumptuous play we've had today!

Welcome back to the Capital FM Arena. An early start for us today.

No need for long deliberation over the starting line-ups this morning. Both teams have successfully navigated two rounds already. A first real test for the JOHNS. By Jove, they've faced some tosh in this tournament so far in the form of the JACKS and the ANDREWS. The PETERS have had to b at the top of their game to come through against the CHRISTOPHERS and the IANS.

    PETERS
    1.Peter Shilton (70/80s goalkeeper)
    2.Peter Hindley (60s/70s defender)
    3.Peter Cormack (70s midfielder)
    4.Peter Davenport (80s forward)
    5.Peter Withe (70s forward)

    JOHNS
    1.John Middleton (70s goalkeeper)
    2.John Metgod (80s defedner/midfielder)
    3.John McGovern (70/80s midfielder)
    4.Johnny Quigley (50s/60s midfielder)
    5.John Robertson (70/80s midfielder)

    This one finishes at 11am

    Who wins?

A key battle in this game may be Davenport versus Middleton.

    Peter Davenport
    147 appearances 58 goals between 1981 to 85
Has been in fine goalscoring form for the PETERS so far, including holding his nerve to beat Iain Turner in a Quarter-Final penalty shoot out.

    John Middleton
112 games between 1974 to 77 including Brian Clough's promotion season
Has rarely been tested in this tournament so far. But can expect to be called into action today.

The JOHNS had been scoring for fun in this tournament, but so far they haven't been able to find a way past Peter Shilton. The early start may be to the PETERS advantage this morning, it is thought that John Robertson is not an early riser.
