Borussia Dortmund have named their Price for Jadon Sancho in the summer - the England winger will cost an eye-watering €120m!

Nope. The Mrs had a work function so I'm left at home watching the somewhat bad tempered affair.

Normally the Italian cup is a half arsed affair, but this one has a bit of edge about it.

Often i think Dybala would be a world class player if he stopped constantly looking for a foul.

A soft penalty keeps Sarri safe for a bit longer.

Incidentally the FIGC (Italian fa) are considering using an appeals system for VAR. Each side gets a couple, that sort of thing.

The Italians don't like VAR either?

Don't tell me it's only the Germans that like it?

Well it's working fine here. One or two daft decisions obviously but nothing like you have in England.

Italy just likes things to be as complicated as they can possibly be. Mores the better if it's needless complication.

After twelve minutes of this afternoon‘s Bundesliga match, it’s Köln 0, FC Bayern 3.

This could be a long afternoon for Das Billy Goats!

    Not today!

It’s finished Hamburger SV 0, St. Pauli 2!

A perhaps unforeseen score, but one that will be celebrated in Stuttgart and Bielefeld. It means the top of the table looks like this, after VfB saw-off Jahn Regensburg:

    .

The Swabians still have to play both Bielefeld (at the beginning of March) and Hamburg (at the start of April), both matches are at home.

    It’s in their hands!

Erling Braut Haaland scores again, as Dortmund defeat Werder, 0-2.

That €20m is looking like peanuts.

They might try, but to be honest, I think he’s destined for more money than Bayern are willing to pay.

He’s still at times very raw, but he’s got all the tools and the physique, and will only get better.

Bayern may well try and poach him in a season or two when Lewandowski slows down, but to be honest I think he’s destined for the Premier League as that’s where the money is.

His Agent is Mino Raola, so, yeah.

So, a posted previously, German fans do not like games on Monday nights.

With the current TV deal, one match was to be played on a Monday, a first for Germany. And the Fans hate it, because of course Tuesday is a work-day for most.

The DFL have said that when the current television agreement expires, there won’t be any more matches on Mondays because of their unpopularity, and fans of many clubs boycott them to make a point. There’s still an element of mistrust because the DFL previously said they would listen to fans who didn’t want games on Monday nights just to suit TV, but they never did.

Tonight, Union Berlin‘s fans have had to travel to Frankfurt to face Eintracht. And the Eintracht „Ultras“ have made their own, rather unsubtle protest at the Commerzbank Arena:

Normally, of course, that terrace would be packed.

Also from Germany, this year sees the 120th anniversary of FC Bayern, and the Bavarians have launched a frankly rascal retro-inspired tribute kit, which they will play in at some point this year, which harkens back to a simpler time:

Along with Oly bearing Arsenal, Celtic have had their pants pulled down at home by Copenhagen.

I see the fans are boycotting these midweek games in protest. What is their reason why they haven’t done the same with the Champions league and Uefa cup matches?

Because effectively, European matches have always been treated differently (and of course, only the clubs who’ve qualified play in them are concerned) and you know as an away fan, you’re going to have - lengthy - travel anyway (often flights or long distance drives) for European fixtures, which are often as not more attractive than an away fixture at TSV Hoffenheim.

The problem with the Englisch Woche Matches (literally „English week“) is that as an „Away“ fan, you don’t want to be travelling within Germany to a domestic game on a week night if you have work in the morning, especially for a league fixture.

The Bundesliga is only 18 teams, so effectively there are nine league matches over a matchday-weekend. The tradition has (for years) been one Match on Friday night, on telly, then - depending on whether the affected sides are playing in European competition - matches on Saturday and Sunday. Remember unlike the U.K., Germany doesn’t have silly laws blacking out coverage of football between 1500-1700 on Saturday and on Sunday, as most of everything is closed (apart from public transport) football on a Sunday is a popular thing to do, and the spread of coverage via Sky and others means you can watch most of the matches if you want.

The „Monday“ night games were introduced a couple of years ago for the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, purely at the demand of Sky Sports Deutschland, who wanted domestic football to show on Monday night. These fixtures are reviled, because the majority (of course) have to go to work on Tuesday. The DFL have confirmed when the current TV-deal runs out at the end of next season, there will no more Monday night games, mostly because of the fan backlash (it does not look attractive to TV audiences and advertisers to see derogatory banners on live TV).

I’ve attended a few games on Monday over the last couple of years and even with the excellent local public transport, it’s often gone midnight when you get home.

Indeed, two of VfB Stuttgart‘s upcoming matches, the top-of-the-table six-pointers against Arminia Bielefeld and Hamburger SV (both of which I’m going to) have been moved to Monday night for Sky.

Love it how in protest Den Haag supporters confronted Alan Pardew at the training ground and instead of having a go they try to show him tactics on a clipboard.
