    I wouldn't be disappointed at all .

Yeah, the Bundesliga, a one-horse Race and all that:

Four points separate the top ten, and leaders FC Bayern were beaten - at home - by Hoffenheim today.

It’s going to be a cracking season.

I like the way they give the for and against goals then, in case you can't cope, they also give you goal difference.

Bayern will still win by a double digit points lead come the end of the season.

    They’re 7 games in

After seeing them tear Spurs a new one, no way has anyone in that league got owt to compete with that over a full season.

They do seem to be starting to get Sarri and his expansive way of playing after the pragmatic Allegri. Second half Inter barely got close to them and Lukaku especially displayed his limitations for all to see.

It seems that Giampaolo has been sacked with Pioli to replace him. Just awaiting the official announcement.

    (translated from this)

    https://twitter.com/AntoVitiello/sta...446013440?s=19

Now, if a manager gets sacked before ten games, to my mind that's not down to him but the divs who appointed someone they had no faith in, in the first place.

Default La Liga/Serie A/Bundesliga/Ligue Un & other World Football Thread

Echoing Huxley‘s point above; VfB Stuttgart have just announced that Sporting Director Thomas Hitzlsperger is to be promoted to become the Chairman of the clubs‘ Supervisory Board - essentially the highest job at the Club.

Regular readers of this thread will recall Stuttgart‘s struggles last season under Markus Wenzierl, who looked completely out of his depth, and oversaw a disastrous run of 29 matches that contributed substantially to the Swabians‘ relegation.

He’d been appointed by the previous CEO, Wolfgang Dietrich, who himself was incredibly unpopular amongst the members of the Club (this poster included).

Dietrich was forced out in the summer, and now, Thomas Hitzlsperger - who is still only 37 - has been given the biggest responsibility for restoring the team‘s place in the Bundesliga.

As Sporting Director, alongside Sven Mislintat (who is responsible for recruitment) VfB have been in some good form so far this season, and currently sit in the top two (automatic promotion) places in the 2. Bundesliga. A side virtually unrecognisable from last season (19 players left and 21 were brought in) and led by new Head Coach Tim Walter (lured from Holstein Kiel by Hitzlsperger in the Summer), the objective this season is simple - Promotion!

But it does prove Mr. Clough‘s old adage; „if. Chairman sacks a Manager he appointed, he should go too!“

St Pauli have relieved Cenik Sahin "from his training and playing duties with immediate effect." After pro Erdogan social media posts.

Just waiting for Milan to follow suit after Calhanoglu's salute nonsense for the national side the other day.

I was curious as to whether the DFB would censure Ilkay Gundogan again, after he also posted more pro-Erdogan stuff on Twitter (and he really should know better, having previous „form“ in this area) but instead it appears Team Manager Oliver Bierhoff made him make a grovelling apology to the entire German squad, which was probably more embarrassing for him.

Tonight the evening fixture in Germany is Borussia Dortmund against Borussia Mönchengladbach, should be a cracker.

Dortmund Coach Lucien Favre has however pulled a shock; leaving out Jadon Sancho from the squad, after the England man returned late from international duty. He’s also been fined for the breach of discipline (not for the first time with Sancho, either).

VAR again in the Prussian derby; Dortmund’s Thorgen Hazard has a goal ruled-out by the VAR after his big toe was adjudged to be in an offside position.

Seems elbows, toes and shoulders are important this season.

Another one to check off the list for me today, Stuttgart against Holstein Kiel!

Default La Liga/Serie A/Bundesliga/Ligue Un & other World Football Thread

Controversy rumbles on this morning, after Stuttgart‘s Holger Badstuber was dismissed in the 52nd minute of the game against Kiel for two innocuous challenges that each drew the Yellow Card, and an Oscar-nomination from the Kiel forward involved; the big defender, on leaving the pitch, was clearly picked up by the sideline microphone shouting „you’re a bunch of pussies!“ at the officials.

This, perhaps understandably, has not gone down well, prompting the veteran into a hasty public apology via social media, but it may not be enough, as the relevant authorities have had their interest piqued and could potentially throw the book at him, with the harshest punishment available being a three-month ban.

This one may run and run.

Ah ha, as expected, the good old DFB have roused themselves from their slumbers and banned Holger Badstuber for two matches, after his dismissal against Kiel.

The second additional match for, ahem, „unsportsmanlike conduct“.

Well, I - and the majority of the other 54.176 who were there on Sunday - agree with Badstuber.

Copa Libertadores Semifinal El Superclasico 2nd leg, La Bombonera, Buenos Aires:

    Boca Juniors 1-0 River Plate
    Hurtado 80'
River Plate through to the final 2-1 on aggregate.

Boca had their chances but River held on and probably should have had a larger lead on aggregate after a first leg in which they missed numerous great chances.
Second semifinal tomorrow night at the Maracana in Rio with things all square between Flamengo and Gremio after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
