Pity some of our loan players missed out on the opportunity with Pearce. ie Shelvey, Richardson, Gabriel, Stewart, Fornah, Taylor and Asare/Back who is injured.

Pearce mentioned about 25 players were in the session.

    Can spot the following

    U23s
    GK: Wright
DF: Rama, Harbottle, Barnes, Preston, Gallacher
    MF: Galliani, Johnson, McGuane, Edser
    ATT : Mighten, En-Neyah, Sole
    CF: Swan, Clough

    * can't spot Gomis, Hayes, Larsson, Walsh but you probably find the numbers are made from these guys short of the 25

    U18s
    GK: Statham, Liburd-Hines
    DF: Spooner, Sanders,
    MF: Dekel-Daks,O.Hammond, Mutoti
    ATT: Gibson-Hammond

I hope he had a long talk with Clough about getting his act together.

After re-calling Will Swan form Truro, we've loaned them Kieran Hayes, who started for them yesterday in a 1-1 draw. (alongside George Shelvey).

Good to see us forming a close relationship with our near neighbours.

Looks like Choz Charlesworth and Tom Gamblen play for Pinxton FC in the Central Mids now.

Gamblen had an unfortunate injury which set him back I think. Charlesworth had a trial at Lincoln only summer before last I think.

They also have a Luke Thomas, but i'm not sure if it's the former academy lad who ended up getting locked up.

Rumour has it that Michael Statham signed a new contract and will be with the U23s. Does anyone know the length of the deal and does this mean the club could be parting ways with Jordan Wright since his contract expires at the end of the season?

That's right BuckeyeRed. Signed his first pro contract. Think he is another case of Forest unearthing a gem and working on them to be the best they can be and thriving. He looks very decent. Can't remember seeing a young GK at Forest save as many penalties as him for a while. A Manchester-boy.

    Update for next season.

I think Forest will trim the squads for next season. Not many major changes.

I reckon Jordan Wright, Max Ram, Ethan Stewart, Toby Edser, Liam Sole, Louis Walsh, Victor Sodeinde, Virgil Gomis & Kieran Hayes are most in jeopardy of being released.
    1) Edser & Gomis mainly for the fact we felt they had outgrown u23s but have had more than 1 failed loan. So it is a balancing act.
    2) For Wright, Stewart, Sole, Walsh & Hayes I think much will depend on who comes up from the 18s or who they add externally & how much they feel they can still develop at Forest.

That leaves for the 23s + those coming up from u18s.

    GK: George Shelvey
DF: Jayden Richardson, Jordan Gabriel, Rezart Rama, Riley Harbottle, Josh Barnes (MF), Dan Preston, Owen Gallacher
MF: Brennan Johnson, Marcus McGuane, Tyrese Fornah, Jake Taylor, Adrian Galliani
ATT: Alex Mighten, Yassine En-Neyah, Keith Asare
    FWD: Will Swan, Julian Larsson

Under 18 2nd years moving up to 23s

GK : Michael Statham (PRO), Nykah Liburd-Hines
DF : Malique Spooner, Sam Sanders
MF : Ethan Dekel-Daks (PRO) , Tawanda Mutoti
    ATT : Luca Doorbar-Baptist
    FWD : Elliot Andrew

At this stage we know Statham and Dekel have pro contracts.

I wouldn't be surprised if Liburd-Hines gets for GK depth for the 23s (especially if Wright leaves) along with Spooner, Doorbar-Baptist (only arrived a year ago from Australia & may actually only be a first year) & Andrew (injury ravaged couple of seasons) get pro contracts.

Sanders and Mutoti probably most in jeopardy. CB could be an issue position for the 23s so unless we add (if we releasing Stewart) then Stewart or 1 of these 2 will stay. Although next years under 18s are loaded with CB options.

    Under 18s First years 2019/20 - 2nd years 2020/21

    RB: Silvio Bello
CB: Morgan Sadler (PRO), Aaron Donnelly (PRO), Luke Boland
CM : Fin Back (PRO), Oli Hammond, Jordan Fankwe
    ATT: Alex Gibson-Hammond, Frankie Amorketu
    FWD: Jovel Jackson-Davis

Sadler (on signing from Bury although still to make his Forest debut) , Donnelly (got a 3 year-deal when joining from his local Irish club) and Back all have deals till 2022. Oli Hammond and Alex Gibson-Hammond are probably likely to get pro's by the end of next season. Bello also been a regular for the 18s this season covering left-back at times.

Next years scholar in-take looks like

    James Clarridge
    (RCB)
    Lewis Barker (LCB)
    Pharrell Johnson (LB)
    Osa Solomon (DM, RB, CB)
    Jack Perkins (ball playing CM)
    Sam Collins (ball playing CM)

Alex Akers (GK)- signed from Basford in the last 12 months - https://www.clwacademy.co.uk/page/?t...2&students=134
Aaron AJ Korpal (Forward) signed from Heather St Johns in Coalville Leics this season

We all know the 2 groups before this didn't have a major local in-take (Sanders, Mutoti, Dekel, Mighten (lost Bondswell)) & (Bello, Hammond, Back) and whilst this group doesn't have a massive reputation bar Clarridge as things stand I think it could be an under the radar one. The tools are there for guys like Solomon (smart reader of the game, comfortable on the ball & excellent in the air), Johnson (physically well put together and athletic with a great left-foot), Perkins & Collins (I will put these 2 together - it is what they do on the ball than without it is there strengths and when they get physically stronger and learn tactical awareness off the ball when they join full-time their growth could exponential).

    Next year schoolboy groups

    Under 15s (2019/20)/ Under 16s (2020/21)

There are still 18 players in this group. Aaron Bott, Kyle McAdam, Jack Nadin and Esapa Osong have all played for the 18s whilst Ben Hammond & Josh Powell have been on the bench. Would be surprised if those 6 don't get scholarships or some don't have already.

McAdam (CM, LCB, LB) & Osong (FWD) have stepped up to the u18s with ease as they not only talented but can physically look after themselves. The trick for McAdam will be trying to find his best position (will he be tall enough for CB because he does have goalscoring ability). And Osong - it says much about his ability and maturity that he has been the go to CF for the u18s this season.
Bott is an extremely impressive all round GK who builds play from hand or feet.
Young Nadin is a little genius on the ball. Physically not the biggest but that hasn't stopped him from dominating for the u16s this season. At best played as a support striker.
Hammond is a tall and lean get the job done CB. Regularly in the Wales youth squad. Think he is Oli's little brother but they look very different.
Josh Powell like McAdam is left-footed and are as good on the ball as with-out it. I think they both born competitors.

So those are only 6. The other 12 are.
DF: Tye Simpson, Jack Thompson, Darryl Powell, Barney Bullock, Justin Hanks
MF: Charlie Carter, Fenn Davies, Ben Perry
ATT: Tayo Tucker, Dannen Flea, Joe Gardner
    FWD: Keane Darby

    2019/20 Under 14s - 2020/21 Under 15s

Here comes the complications for the above group. There are individual talents in this group that will add so much to the balance of those 6 above who have been u18 squads this season.
A nice compact group with 3 promotions from the group below who are with them quite often.

    Goalkeeper
    Keehan Willows

    Defenders
    Drew Ward
    Tony Gbopo
    David Modupe (u14)
    Elijah Morgan
    Louis Bonser

    Midfield
    Ritchie Ingham
    Zach Abbott
    Kameron Mohammed

    Attackers/attacking midfield
    Danny Anisjko
    Theo Flanagan (u14)

    Forwards
    Alex Li
    Kristian Clarke (u14)

    Colour-coding again
    Notts
    Mansfield
    Lincs
    Leics
    Derbys

Just something I have picked up on.

Sunderland and Swansea (along with a few other teams) but mainly those 2 for now, are well short of Category One Academies and there was rumours they would lose or relinquish their status.

The frustrating thing is, the two clubs who have invested because of Premier League money and are set to move up to Category One are Crystal Palace and Burnley.

Hey Bryan, I have a couple of questions. Hopefully, you have the answers. First, has Dekel signed a new contract beyond the one expiring in June? Second, I was curious about a few of the U15s (moving up to 16s) that weren't mentioned. Perhaps they've left the club. They are Taylor Anderson, Oliver Hoyland, Freddie McGrady and Ben Poulter. Thanks in advance.

    Morning BR,

Not entirely sure on Ethan. I would say it is till the end of next season but either way he will be here for next season. If it does end, end of this season , it wouldn't surprise me if he got a new 2 year contract.

    On those u15s.

    Ben Poulter is Ben Perry.
Taylor Anderson is at Mansfield and Hoyland was released too.
Freddie unfortunately after that injury hasn't been able to come back to what he was. Which is unfortunate because he was one of the top players in this very good group. Forest got Osong around that time to have a CF for the group.

This will effect the youth football programme massively.

Do you then pick a group of the best young players to train with the first team to be in with a shout of selection ? Most definitely.

It might also be interesting if clubs select 1 or 2 younger players who they feel it will beneficial for to be with the first team instead of not continuing with any form of group football.

I think it will affect youth football all the way down

My lads team are under 12s which is the 1st year of big school and is the year that historically most lads either leave football or are in it for the long haul at all levels.

We have already lost three players who have found other things to do and gained two from other clubs who have disbanded as they dont have enough players.

Local and youth football is gonna be decimated as players get out the habit.

Looks a very good piece of business. Captains the Northern Ireland u17s & Donnelly who we signed from Dungannon Swifts for this seasons (2019/20) new intake is also in that team.

Scholar intake for 2020/21 looks like 10 players although they may be looking for a 2nd GK as the current first years don't have one.

    2020/21 First years

    GK: Alex Akers

    RB:
    CB: James Clarridge
    CB: Lewis Barker
    LB: Pharrell Johnson

    CM: Osa Solomon
    CM: Sam Collins
    CM: Jack Perkins

    FWD: AJ Korpal
    FWD: Dejanae Campbell

    CF: Dale Taylor

    Current First years & 2020/21 2nd years

    GK:

    RB: Silvio Bello
CB: Morgan Sadler and Luke Boland
    CB: Aaron Donnelly
    LB:

    CM: Finley Back
    CM: Jordan Fankwe
    CM: Oliver Hammond

    FWD: Alex Gibson-Hammond
    FWD: Frankie Amorketu

    CF: Jovel Jackson-Davis

Not sure the 2nd years are strong enough for us to have a good FA Youth Cup run but I think they can improve on their 5th place position and still give schoolboys opportunities where the 16s and 15s are strong groups.

I'd tend to think we could make categorisation irrelevant if we provided a clear pathway from academy into first team for those good enough.

Wouldn't be hard, have a first 11, a second 11 of u23's either from academy or signed in on cheap, and then if just so happens get injuries to both players in the same position from those 2 groups then an academy lad goes straight in.

No need for massive expensive squads, and gives young talented kids a reason to stick at Forest than move to a 'better' academy.

    There are positives and negatives.

In my opinion we were well ahead of Derby and Leicester in producing young players for professional football but there is no doubt that them being Category One has got them closer to us and in Derby's opinion feel like they ahead of us in producing players for their first team.

That to me means that Cat 1 is working for them (recruiting, facilities, coaching, more money spent- whatever the reason) and does have positives. They now probably feel they can try get a competitive advantage over us which is also a concern from the bottom up. I think the age group most beneficial for Cat 1 academies is u18s football - playing the best young players in the country week in week out. I do have concerns though with u23s football because teams can keep players there too long to win football matches when they forget that the main job is to develop players still.
