Has anyone taken the lad Etete from Notts? I know he had a trial at Spurs and we had been sniffing around.

Not too many surprises. Interesting to see how many of the offered sign their deals. Gallacher is a surprise there.

Alex Mighten joins the top list on April 11 and Fin Back from the new scholar in-take on September 25.

Considering he has another year at u18 level I would be surprised if he stays at Notts.

Supposedly he got the trial at Spurs because someone who worked at Notts is now at Spurs and put him to their scouting team.

Interesting those born in the last few months of the year (i.e. the first few months of the season - Sept-Dec) dominate the groups. You'd expect a more even spread as they get older (assuming they're considered talented enough to keep) but then I suppose someone born Sept 2000 would be playing in the same age group as someone boen August 2001, yet be 11 months older still.

    It's the relative age effect.

Good read here about it from 2011. Interesting to see some of the names mentioned by the Spurs Academy head back then, and how well they're doing now.

It is a really interesting topic and one that has finally got into English academy thinking.

In recent years the England u15 team has been formed and the players are picked from u15s and u14s at clubs at the start of the season and they really make sure it is an exhaustive process including both age groups where age and size need to be taken into account but not if you know what I mean.

It is all about the footballer now and not the physical strength they may exert at that age. If size, technique and speed come together which they are then great.

The Under 18 squad is really small.

There seems no Gabriel Ogunseri with the u18 2nd years mentioned on retained list. He hardly played football this season despite being fit and then got a few games and disappeared.

So only 8 2nd years. But we have had two young Greek lads over.

    GK: Michael Statham, Nykah Liburd-Hines
DF: Malique Spooner, Tawanda Mutoti, Sam Sanders
    MF: Ethan Dekel-Daks
    FWD: Alex Mighten, Elliott Andrew

I also believe there is only 6 new scholars at this stage but there has been some European scouting happening. Maybe added as the summer goes on. 3 local in-take (Bello, Back, Hammond) and 3 added (Boland, Gibson-Hammond, Jackson-Davis) so far.

    DF: Silvio Bello, Luke Boland
MF: Fin Back, Oli Hammond, Alex Gibson-Hammond
    FWD: Jovel Jackson-Davis

So that is where the schoolboys come in.

    Under 16s

    GK: Jonasz Gadomski
DF: Jonty Bouch, Osa Solomon, James Clarridge, Lewis Barker, Pharrell Johnson, Elicha Ahui
MF: Jordan Fankwe, Jack Perkins, Curtis Durose, Sam Collins
FWD: Luther Munakandafa, Lewis Darlington, Dejanae Campbell

    * Ones in bold made u18 debuts this season.
At this stage it looks like Clarridge (tall/classy England yth CB), Fankwe (power-house/strong box-to-box midfielder), Perkins (diminutive play-maker who can see a pass - been playing at the base of midfield often this season like Dekel with 18s) & Darlington (fast direct dribbler who plays across the front 3 and was at the initial England 03 born u15 camps) look the most likely for scholars for 2020-21 at this stage. Think they will play quite a bit of u18 football next season.

Under 15s (the stand-outs - the group has done really well nationally)

    GK: Aaron Bott
    DF: Kyle McAdam (LCB/CM)
    MF: Fenn Davies (CDM)
FWD : Esapa Osong (strong runner who can play 9 & scored on his u18 debut this season), Tayo Tucker (tricky little dribbler who can play central or wide)

    Under 14s

    DF : Elijah Morgan (LB)
    MF: Danny Anisjko
    FWD: Alex Li

These 3 have been playing up 2/3 years at times this season. Morgan very similar to Bondswell & been regularly with 15s/16s. Anisjko was playing with the 15s/16s at Pilgrim Cup last weekend and shining as an u13 with his technical qualities despite his size) whilst Li is a powerful and explosive fast line-runner who scores goals for fun.

Yes, I know about it (and in realistic terms, it actually applies to other areas than sport). They have to draw the line somewhere, and so if you're talking a calendar year, either in terms of a school year or Jan-Dec, you're going to always favour less those at the younger end.

There will always be outliers (I was one of the older ones in my year but one of the smallest until mid way through year 10, and all of the Big Four in tennis were born between May and August)... but generally it's expected the younger ones will be weaker.

Probably better (as it seems to happen more) to focus on the ability, more than strength or athleticism (which will come naturally as a kid grows) and maybe, as a radical option, group kids on size and not age.

Nice interview with Chris Cohen. Put the interview in his thread.

Just on the last one where he name drops players.

Brennan Johnson the obvious one. Also names Jayden Richardson. Jake Taylor and Tyrese Fornah are the interesting one's. Obviously says others.

    Brennan Johnson

“He has the ability to score goals, the ability to affect games of football, the ability to run, tackle and do most things as a player. He has all the things you need.

“We will never know, until he gets up there, how he will handle that in a first team environment.

“But, from what he has done for us, he is now going past the level of under-23 football, if he has not done so already. His next stage is for him to play senior football.”
    The rest

“I have spoken about Brennan before and there are others as well Jayden Richardson is another one who has done really well,” said Cohen. “Jake Taylor, Tyrese Fornah… these are players who look like they can go and play at any level they want to.

“But, until you expose them to that first team environment, then things can change.

“In terms of what they have done - and I have missed some names out there - who have all been brilliant.”

Saw something interesting yesterday. Nottinghamshire Schools FA U11s won the National Title and will represent England in Barcelona in the Danone Nations Cup.

9 of the 10 boys are at Nottingham Forest and the other is at Derby.

Any word on those that were offered contracts? I believe it was:

Academy: En-Neyah, Gallacher, Hayes, Stewart, Taylor and Wright.
    18s: Barnes, Ram and Swan.

Also, does anyone know how long Dekel is under contract?

We've just finished 3rd in a tournament in Breskens Holland behind Boca Juniors & Club Brugge.

En-Neyah, Gallacher, Hayes & Stewart were all there. So got to assume they signed.

Taylor wasn't there but 98s weren't allowed and only 5 99s were allowed in the squad so Wright wasn't chosen (no disrespect to him but Shelvey is younger and ahead of him so was #1 here).

Swan was there. Ram has been injured all season. Barnes I'm sure will stay.

Not sure on Dekel's contract. Your first pro contract can only be 2 years so it would be max 2021 like Mighten's was.

Makes sense. Just got him on the pro contract to secure his future during scholar years. Mighten's more advanced and they gave him the longest deal possible as big clubs were interested in him.

This. This is just frankly fucking awesome.

Anyone who’s worn the uniform will tell you how brilliant this sort of respect is.

Well done NFFC and C. D. Cohen.

This kind of stuff makes you proud of your club. Might not be strutting our stuff in the EPL or at Wembley (for now) but do things properly.

    6. Stewart
    7. Fornah
    8. Johnson

No 98s were allowed so that includes Taylor and Gabriel.

5 99s in the squad allowed but we took 4 (Hayes, Edser, Gallacher & Fornah) but no Wright & Gomis.

Guys like Preston, Harbottle, Dekel & Mighten all injured.

16s like Back having their exams but England u15 captain Clarridge travelled.
