Today's cup game saw our U23s progress to the last 8 of their cup competition with a lively performance and 2-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth's U23 team.
The match was a free to enter game at the WFCG, attended by a decent crowd.
Forest lads started well and built on their well schooled approach and build up play with success in the form of 2 very nice goals in the 42 and 44th minutes.
The second half was one-way traffic until the last 10 minutes.
During that time Forest forced Bournemouth onto the back foot, winning the ball in dangerous areas, breaking quickly and commanding the game.
Only the Bournemouth keeper kept Forest at bay with a string of fine saves.
However, like their first team counterparts Forest did concede the upper hand to AFCB for the last 10 minutes or so, and also like the first team conceded a goal from a free kick conceded in a dangerous part of the pitch.
Bournemouth suckered Forest with a free kick manouvre, nicely flighted cross and solid header beyond Forest keeper, Bossin, who had been untroubled up to that point.
Players to watch on display this afternoon included Arven Appiah, and a couple of others - names not known to me as there was neither team sheet, nor a scoreboard display to tell spectators who was who.
Special mention to 2 likely looking lads, who might make it when they get a bit older... Bridcutt at the heart of midfield made things tick, and Ward, despite wasting a couple of very decent chances, always looked lively.
Who knows, maybe these 2 young lads might one day make it to the first team, or be snapped up by Chelsea or Man City
Nice one captain, how did arvin play, was he up front or out wide?

There's a young lad called Jamie Ward that stood out.

Yes - Arvin played left wing.
    Promising performance.

Mods - please merge with the Academy... I didn't realise the Academy thread included the U23s.
    Apologies.

As you mentioned Appiah played well especially the first half but he’s not ready for first team action just yet, personally feel he would benefit from a loan to a good League 1 side.
A friend of ours down in Bournemouth who provides accommodation for AFCB trainees at her family home says that the AFCB U23 team was mainly made up of U18 players.
Now, I don't know if that is true, but if those lads were U18, there were some pretty big units!

Kieran Hayes called-up to the Philippines National Team training camp in Bangkok.

Danny Preston hopefully back fit for the QFs of the U23 Premier League Cup.

U23s have drawn Swansea in the Premier League Cup QFs. Game to be played on 29 March at Alfreton's Impact Arena.

23s play Coventry away shortly. Could be interesting to see if any new u18s are promoted at least on to the bench even if they want to be kept for u18s game tomorrow whilst they still in the running for the play-offs.

You seem to have excised from your memory the two Greeks. Perhaps understandably so given their failure to adjust, but at least Megaritis is still there (I've seen his name on the bench), contrary to Panagou who has probably left.

I sort of put him with Josef Hefele. They both starting today because of players on international duty and none of the seniors have dropped down.

I think if there was nothing for the u18s to play for we would see guys like Swan/Barnes/Dekel-Daks and even schoolboy Back.
