Default The demise of (The Demise of) Manchester United

Looks like Tuesday's aliens stole the original "The Demise of Manchester United" thread.

    Here's a (hopefully) worthy successor.

By "relegation battle", do you mean 7th, 12th or 14th?

The original thread about Manchester United's plummet down the league vanished? That's the last time we let Howard Webb be a moderator!

Van Gaal seems keen to hark back to the jolly good old days of football by playing a 1960s-esque 2-3-5 formation - or so it seems, from his signings.

Expect lots of goals, brylcream, shorts down to the knees and "uncompromising" full backs.

Oh and United to be relegated by Christmas.

I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

Would the Premier League allow it? It might affect their income from overseas sales. Could they be saved by dodgy refing?

Rule 39.2. strictly forbids the regulation of Manchester United as one of the founders of football in 1992.

Hmmm. There might be something in this.

Although of course, Howard Webb has retired now.

A toughie for the Premier League to get out of!

Like him or loathe him, you've got to admit Alex Ferguson is loathsome.

Was once asked to play for England.

Just remember folks. It's perfectly ok to hate Man United just as long as you don't forget to hate Liverpool as well.

That's always a tricky one, when these hated media love jobs play each other, I always hope for some seriously disgraceful incidents to cover both clubs in shame.

Interesting comments by Van Gaal in several papers this morning regarding the sale of Welbeck, not good enough for United, yet sold for Premier League pittance money to a rival.

My money is on Wenger, like him or not, I do by the way, to enhance the ability of the player, way beyond what we have seen him produce for Utd.

Half the time though, United played Welbeck in midfield to accommodate Rooney and van Persie.

Wenger, if he's got any sense, will stick him in as a Centre-Forward and just tell him to play his natural game.

That's what he's doing today, playing Welbeck as a striker. Such a good buy for Arsenal that, I bet Fergie was annoyed at his sale.

Louis van Fail versus the mighty QPR coming up. The broke versus the joke.

QPR beaten 4-0. Is that the same QPR we beat 2-0 last season? Without spending £200 million? (despite the best efforts of the Scottish manager). Looking forward to the media going over the top about this.

The thread has gone and the spell has been lifted. Should have at least taken a screenshot.

    Thread's dead, baby. Thread's dead.

The new thread title seems to have a double meaning!

I think they'll score plenty of goals from now on, but I'd still think they ought to concede too many to win the league this season given Mourinho seems to have found the consistency of his original spell at Chelsea, and Arsenal and Man City both ought to be up near the top with a very good haul of points by the end.

I'd be very surprised if anyone was able to stop Chelsea this season, Mourinho has exactly the balance he's been looking for in his team and they show strength in areas other teams show weakness.

Man United fans shouldn't get excited about beating QPR 4-0, they still have a lot of work to do.
