Blown out by their first choice Terry Henry then, I think Dean Smith will do well if he can handle a big club and demanding fans

Be interesting, I think Smith is a good manager but there has been plenty of good managers go to pot when they come from clubs with little expectations.

Pretty good pick by Villa if true, but tbh I wanted Henry to get the job.

The problem is there are more „big“ clubs with large fanbases to be milked for Cash than can fit in to a 20-team Premier League, especially when the top division gets gate-crashed by no-marks like Huddersfield, Brighton, Watford and Bournemouth (and good for those four).

Those Asian fans aren’t going to pay for Huddersfield v Bournemouth, but they might for matches featuring dirty Leeds, the Sheffield clubs or Villa.

The way he talks about it makes me cringe though, I really don’t like this bloke. Hikes up ticket prices, loves the limelight, always complaining about something or talking about money.

    Smith to Villa is interesting.

    1) Never worked with ego's before.
    2) Isn't used to spending large amounts on players if there's budget for them.
    3) Never managed in the PL if they do get there.
    4) Plays a patient passing game, whereas Villa have been playing a slightly prettier version of kick and rush for the past 3 years.

Weird one for me, despite how much I rate what he's done at Brentford. Can understand why Smith made the move given it's a big leap up in terms of reputation for him, and it's his boyhood club, but from a Villa POV even though they're appointing a manager with a good reputation at this level, it's possibly quite a short term move for them just to get them competing again at this level.

Edit: Do think it somewhat kills Brentford off as a competitor for us. They aren't going to get someone better for them, that can come in and keep their form up immediately.

Doesn't seem like a good fit to me. Seems similar to Heckingbottom going to Leeds, a man better suited to clubs without such expectation.

I wonder how long he'll get before he gets the dreaded 'cabbage' thrown at him.

Its what clubs need to consider when appointing a manager.... there needs to be some kind of food item that you can throw at the new manager when it all goes wrong

Say what you like about Steve Bruce, but was a bit harsh of that Villa fan to throw Steve Bruce at Steve Bruce

We need to clear something up, is winning the fair play league finishing top or bottom.

Also, what's the point in Swansea. They haven't conceded hardly any goals, haven't scored hardly any goals this season and have only received 4 bookings.

How the fuck do you only receive 4 bookings?

When big clubs like ourselves or Leeds can't compete on a level playing field with the relegated teams from the Premier League due to parachute payments, the rules and payments need changing.

Sky created this clusterfuck, yet are now plundering Championship matches to make up their shortfall in missing out in the bidding for other competitions.

Something has to change or we'll soon be left with clubs who are unable to mount a challenge for promotion due to FFP and the Premier League will become a closed shop.

    ...Which is what they want.

A closed League, like in America, where they can concentrate all the money on a single group of clubs and market the fuck out of them, globally.
