    Default Brede Hangeland

    http://www.nottinghampost.com/Transf...il/story.html?

NOTTINGHAM Forest are being linked with one of the top defenders in the Premier League over the last five years.

Big Norwegian centre back Brede Hangeland was released by relegated Fulham earlier this month after his contract came to an end.

And the 32-year-old’s odds on moving to the City Ground have been cut down to 8/1, leading odds comparison site Oddschecker.com can reveal.

However, it is understood Hangeland, who spent six-and-a-half years at Craven Cottage, is likely to be playing his football in the top flight of English football again next season.

A trio of London clubs – Crystal Palace (5/2), QPR (2/1) and West Ham (4/1) – are favourites to land one of the hottest prospects this summer, in terms of those players on offer on a free transfer.

Hangeland is reported to have delayed a decision on his future while he goes on holiday although it seems unlikely to move to the Championship, or to the Reds for that matter.

Stuart Pearce will have strength in depth when it comes to selecting his centre-back pairing next month, with Jamaal Lascelles, Jack Hobbs, Kelvin Wilson and Danny Collins in the Forest squad.

Oddschecker also show that Grant Holt is 12/1 to return to Forest this summer.

The Aston Villa frontman is expected to stay at Villa Park and is best odds of 6/4 to stay. But should he move on, Forest are one of a number of potential candidates for his signature.

Jordan Rhodes continues to be linked with a move away from Blackburn Rovers before the start of next season and is just 2/1 to move to Norwich City.

A transfer to Forest is a 10/1 shot, making Pearce’s side the fourth favourites to sign him.

Rumours also remain that Forest are stepping up their pursuit of Peterborough striker Britt Assombalonga.

Meanwhile, with the new season fast approaching and the 2014/15 fixture list to be announced on Wednesday at 9am at www.nottinghampost.com, the Reds are now best price odds of 20/1 to win the Championship and 13/2 to achieve promotion.

He wants to go to QPR or Palace as he's "too good" for the championship.

On that basis I concur with chriscl.

Would be an awesome signing but not a chance he'll sign for a Championship team.

He's been shaky recently. He had a terrible game against France for Norway, and isn't really as good as he used to be. I'd say no to signing him, really, as much as I would love another Norwegian at Forest.

Would be Superb signing, not that we need any more defenders.

Even on a free, I'd say no. Unless we were going to sell Lascelles for a shit-load of money to balance out FFP. But Hangeland will be on a big wage and we're sorted for quality CB. I'd rather we spent on other areas.

Used to be very good but looks sluggish nowadays.

Still a threat from a set piece but he's no better than Hobbs to be honest.

Lol. Our fans make me laugh sometimes.

Hangeland would by far and away be the best defender at the club if he arrived. Of course, he won't come here. But to say he wouldn't improve us is nothing short of ludicrous.

No he isn't AS good as he was 2 or 3 years ago, but 2 or 3 years ago he was a top 5 or 6 CB in the Premier League.

Forest probably only interested if Lascelle's fee reaches a sensational level.

He'd be a fantastic replacement though in the short term!
