Default A Recent Q&A with John McGovern

My mate went to a recent Q&A with Club legend and Ambassador John McGovern. Apart from the usual questions asked re his role at the club and past glories the 2 notable answers from John Mc Govern were that:

Henri Lansbury isn't going anywhere, Stuart see's him as the perfect player to build a side around and the club want to build a young squad surrounded by experience and quality with academy graduates stepping up and cementing a place in the side. Players like Osborn will only learn from the quality and experience from the likes of Reid,Vaughan and Lansbury

Now the second most notable answer was this: After Davies was sacked and with Warnock not wanting the job, Fawaz was keen on appointing Paolo Di Canio as manager. John McGovern wanting someone who would treat the club with respect and have someone who has the club very close to their hearts. After the Davies debacle McGovern said "We needed a Forest Man to galvanise the club and get everyone together as one". John if you can say talked Fawaz out of the decision of appointing Di Canio as it would turn into a disaster and for the good of the club Pearce is a perfect fit to sort the club out and get everyone on side.

This bit is important, as some folks were having a real pop at Warnock saying he was lying.

Depends who you listen to, My mate said John didn't expand his answer re Warnock probaly due to the fact either one wasn't happy in what they said about eachother.

If JM talked Fawaz out of hiring PdeC, he deserves a statue in the city centre

I didn't have a pop at Warnock but my information that Fawaz blew him out came from a very reliable, pro Warnock source before it was made public that negotiations had ceased.

I'm happy to stand by this one.

    John McGovern = Forest Legend.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

    What is Fawaz on?

Can there have been anyone else in the world who, after the saga of Davies, could have thought that di Canio could possibily be the answer?

I think the Warnock Vs Fawaz thing is a perfect example that there's two sides two every story, both probably just as valid.

McGovern wants noshing off by a 18 y/o starlet for helping us avoid Di Canio.

Fawaz is a far too blinded by designer, celeb-esq gumph. Sir Johnathon you have just saved this club from utter ruin and have my utmost grattitude

It's stuff like this that really makes me think any manager finishing top 10 with us should get plenty of time, coz a Mcleish/Di Canio/Brazil/Hoddle etc. is often waiting around the corner.

Fawaz is a good owner and as enthusiastic as they come but to think PDc was a good choice is sheer lunacy. We need JMc to continue his role to help keep us on the right track.

If Fawaz was seriously considering Paolo Di Canio after Billy Davies, then he is a fucking crack pot.

No disrespect to the OP but i don't believe a word.

Aye-up! You won't think so, but to anyone outside Forest wishing ill for the club, it's really a close call between PDC and Psycho. Both managerial failures, one who (in the Billy Davies mould) thinks he's bigger than the clubs he runs, the other incapable of even scoring a goal at home during his last club appointment.

When Fawaz first came I actually tweeted him as a pretend fan pleading for him to appoint "club legend" Psycho. Of course you can see the reasons for Pearce as a Forest man, and because of that there's a (really slight) chance it could work, but the expectation has to be one of disastrous failure. But you should really be worried if Fawaz is so naive he wanted Di Canio. McGovern's a friend of the family so I'll ask about that when I next see him.

As an old Nottingham lad, I was back briefly in town yesterday, walking past Cloughie and through the market square in the sunshine. Place looked lovely and lively. Couldn't say that on the Derby forums, but better return to discuss Wembley

You've just gone down a LONG way in my estimations.

By "relegation battle", do you mean 7th, 12th or 14th?

McGovern was interviewed on the Radio before the Brighton game (I think) where he mentioned that Fawaz was perhaps taking too much notice of an agent that was pushing PDC's name forward.

As far as managerial failures go you're club is currently being managed by one of the biggest ever, so as you can probably appreciate it's all about right "fit".

Psycho is bang on for us at the mo and the stuff he's already doing has me personally optimistic.

You realise if you lose, we'll make you suffer for it next season right?

    Christ Fawaz. Di Canio?

John helped us dodge a bullet there.

Maybe he was the nine game man to get us in the play offs. Worked short term with Sunderland. I do the D I CAN E O...D I CAN E O...song. After I'd have sung that I would have been unhappy about the appointment.

I have a friend who supports West Ham. He has 2013-14 home WHU shirt with 'Do Canio' on the back. He should go there.

He doesn't quote McGovern saying Warnock didn't want the job.

Di-Canio could've actually been a decent appointment short term

But well done McGovern if that's the case.
