Something I think many have forgotten. After Mcliesh we were almost as untouchable as we are now.

Clearly Billy had done something major to piss Fawaz off in order for him to get rid before the seasons end. I think it all boils down to Fawaz and his naivety of the English game, a CEO in charge would've probably pointed out to him that at least waiting until the seasons end would've been the most sensible and stable option.

As it is, I'm quietly confident that the Pearce era will be a successful one, but as mentioned above we have killed the season for no good reason. Despite the fact that the season may have already been dying, there were still some signs of life.

In pure footballing terms it made sense to hold on to the end of the season. For all his flaws, Billy's record is strong in terms of sneaking into the playoffs at the end of the season, he almost did it under miraculous circumstances last year.

However it is real people, not CVs, that we're talking about, and if working relationships had broken down as completely as they seem to have done, then there was little to be gained from keeping him on. Trying to get Warnock or similar to do this year what Billy almost did last year was worth a punt, failing that we've just got to dust ourselves down and move on.

And for all our allegedly-poisonous reputation, there's a big opportunity at Forest for someone. If you're a talented and sensible adult of a manager looking to establish your reputation, you could actually do a lot worse than have Fawaz as your Chairman.

    2) Keep Billy until the end of the season and review the situation.

There was no reason to throw your toys out of the pram and scrap your original plan from the beginning of the season. If Billy hadn't delivered a playoff place, then you had good reason to sack him. But you didn't give the man a full season, or anyone else for that matter.

We had terrible luck with injuries and were already slipping, and there was no way somebody was going to come in with a magic formula, as Fawaz suggested would happen.

'We were ready to slide out of the playoffs. We lose 5-0 to Derby, I cannot let this happen'...

Well, not only did you let it happen. You made it worse didn't you?

It's like we've chucked the pilot & co-pilot out the plane and left one of the stewardesses to land the plane.

    It does hold water.

If you change your analogy and say that the stewardess had to land the plane when the pilot and co-pilot scarpered after a wing fell off, you'd be more accurate.
