Default So what's the target for this season now?

Before Billy was sacked top 6 was the "par" target which we were aiming for, so I was just wondering what people now think that the "par" target should be now that he's been dismissed?

Firstly stave of relegation .. I still think top 6 is achievable but my oh my we have to beat Ipswich Saturday then two home games on the bounce ! ...but given our current form and confidence is this really feasible ? . Saturday plunged a knife deep but last night it was twisted 180 degrees ..

Despite everything we're still only 2 points off the play-offs. That HAS to be the target.

Mid table. Everyone's happy with mid table as long as we get pitch side interviews, and we like the bloke and blah blah words.

It does seem bizarre that we'd sack someone then reduce the "par" standard too doesn't it? If that's the case then what was the point? I think we'll likely end up mid-table, but whoever comes in simply has to have theor par as top 6 or the whole sacking becomes pointless at this stage of the season.

Since Fawaz decided to sack our manager and throw the cards up in the air. I'd say stabilise the results and just try and get as many points as possible.
Don't see the Playoffs as being realistic now, yes, we're two points off but we are so far away from being a playoff team right now.

Just restore a bit of pride and finish as high as possible.

He was sacked because we were going to miss out anyway, and this way we've got 5+ games for a new manager to come in and assess the squad in competitive games. It'll give us a head start on transfer activity for the Summer and allow the players to begin their adoption of new tactics early.

As such the target for the remainder of the season is simply to appoint the right manager and begin the process of overhauling the back room staff.

Well Davies had to do better than SOD's 8th, so the next manager will have to better than Davies 7th or he should be forced out. In 5 years time we might just get there.

You can't really say that with certainty. I think he was sacked now because they can get him gross misconduct for handling a referee and not have to give him a pay out.

Seem to have heard that a few times over the last couple of years.

What, like last year until we're 7th again and sack that manager too?

The assumption that we were going to miss out on the playoffs just because of bad form is as crazy as the assumption that we were definitely going to make the autos because of good form. I understand where you're coming from mate, but nowt's guaranteed, and we should be making choices based on final results - not half time ones.

If we've sacked Billy for not making top 6, the next manager simply has to or it's been pointless, as there's no reason it could not have been planned done better in the summer. I understand the payout reasons, but if we're faffing about over such a relatively small amount of money then we're nowhere near a Prem side anyway and should embrace any manager who has us top 8 in this league.

As much as you're far more tactically astute than an experienced Championship manager. You really can't say that for certain. If we hadn't had the upheaval on Monday we could have won last night and been 6 off Derby, in 6th place. With a few players coming back over the next 3 weeks, you never know what could have happened.

Sort out all the apparent in fighting, break off all of the evil ju ju that Billy has placed on the team, start scoring goals, create a good foundation of a playing style, execute the booing fans, get Fawaz and the players to leave twitter, restore the pride, bring in the rest of the Algerian national team, rinse and repeat, 2 hours at gas mark 4 then 45 mins a kilogram for any kilogram over 3 kilograms

It probably coincided nicely for Fawaz. He would have been wondering about whether or not to get rid of Billy and then the Derby game sealed his decision. He can then either sack him immediately and pay out £1m+, or hang on two days and fuck him off for nothing. It's not small time, it's sensible if his decision was already made.

Back to the snide insults again, but unfortunately for you history has proven me right and Billy (plus all his followers) wrong. Deal with it.

I think it's spinning to say "top 6" was your target for the season. With all Fawaz's money over the summer, the expectation (he'll have had) was surely top 2. Having been prepared to sack SOD when so close to the playoff places, the minimum requirement was probably a comfortable playoff spot rather than sneaking in on the last day. So, "par" was probably top 3 or 4.

A year and a bit on and no improvement on SOD (you're effectively 8th with Brighton's game in hand) and a realization that Billy was who he was, he had to go. But, you're ony 2 points off the playoffs and there are 8 games to go, so of course the target is to get back into a playoff position.

But you need to appoint the right manager quickly before you drift further out of contention. Let's hope it drags on a few weeks, eh?

Fawaz hit that target in Feb 2013.

What's the next target? Appeasing the anti-Billy moaners and landing Hoddle?
