A lot of Eastern European teams there. Whereas the CL is almost exclusively a tournament for western Europe once it gets going.

UEFA appear to be on course to split Europe into two along a Cold War divide.

i wonder why they call, at this phase, the Champions League Draw, still a draw. there are so many exclusions and parameters that is more a fix than a draw

Exactly. Just pull them out the hat in any old order, that would mix it up and give some entertaining ties.

Real Madrid v. PSG will be tasty, but most of the others look suspiciously like an effort to ensure the passage of certain teams...

and chelsea-barcelona had a 45% of 'draw' and obviously it happened.

FIFA have held a World Cup draw for as long as anybody cares to remember and the host nation has yet to be drawn in a group of even mild difficulty. Football's hype machine likes a ceremony a pointless overblown ceremony.

We used to do some of our training in the Harz Mountains and there was a ski jump right on the border with East Germany. If you jumped too far you were in the Soviet Zone!

They even tried it in the first round draw of the 1978-79 European Cup and look how that turned out.

Real Madrid are such spawny bastards. I bet PSG hate going away to Spain. As against Barcelona last year they’ve generally been the better side, had more chances etc but not had the luck go their way.

I'd say Neymar staying on the pitch was lucky.

Although it could have ended 7 a side if all the players "simulation" was booked.

It pisses me off, these are some of the best players in the world and they'd rather cheat than play the game.

I walk around like everything is fine but deep down, in my shoe, my sock is sliding off.

Yes I think they’ve pulled a rabbit out of the hat with Mo Salah. Absolutely fucking rapid but a cracking goalscorer as well.

Funny that Chelsea deemed both him and de Bruyne not good enough.

TBF they weren't at that stage and non of the top clubs persevere with talent, they want instant results.

Does that mean we're a top club again?!?

It’s largely because the two teams play different styles. Salah is perfect in a front three, for instance. De Bruyne flourishes in a free role. Liverpool deemed Sterling to not be good enough, but he’s thriving at Man City.

RM v PSG was a very good game, but PSG will be kicking themselves that they couldn’t come away with a result. It should still be close in the return leg.

    Anyone see Ronaldo's penalty?

Ball is in the air when he strikes it because Ronaldo stamps his foot next to it. Brilliant.

Wonder if it was intentional or not?

Certainly wouldn't surprise me if it was something that was planned.

It's a complete joke. Same goes for the refereeing as well. They are so intent on Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus reaching the latter stages. Chiellini throwing himself about (when no one had touched him) in his own penalty area every time Spurs has a corner to get a free kick was infuriating.

Not content with diving around he now has to chest to score a penalty itself? That he doesn’t plant his foot that close to the ball and he almost kicks it with his ankle, I’m not sure he did that on purpose anyway.

But really, there’s something not right about the ball popping up off the ground when you stamp the ground. #Pennogate

Read on Twitter (I know don't laugh at me) that other players and managers have commented on him trying it in training for hours

    Have words with the ref.

Ball must be stationary on the penalty spot.

By "relegation battle", do you mean 7th, 12th or 14th?
