    Now that's tinpot.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

Don't know, but I can only imagine someone will be in the office first thing Monday morning for a right royal bollocking.

Terry Farndale would never let that happen here.

He has loads of jobs, to be fair to him. He's the head groundsman as well as kitman and part time physio.

Haha, I've had that argument thrown at me by Stags fans. One of them said I should support my local team, so I asked him how often he goes to watch Sutton Town

Why are Mansfield fans so scruffy?

It's like you've officially stepped into the north.

Not all are, they have their 'dressers'.
But yeah, North Notts is one of the most deprived areas in the country. Still, plenty of Northern lads turn out smart.

Christ my really local team is AFC Mansfield, that new club that plays at Forest Town Welfare. Shudder

Like Bridgford 71 says though they do have some smart lads that go, but the majority are scruffs because that's pretty much all this town is full of.

Also, we're allowed to say that, 'foreigners' aren't.

It does happen periodically. In the 1982 World Cup, both France and Yugoslavia turned up for a game with blue shirts. One of the teams had to borrow kit from a local team to allow the game to go ahead.

I went to the Mansfield Town v Aston Villa game last night, Sam Clucas looks the brightest by a long way, a bit lightweight though. Hobbled off in the second half.
Darren Bent was the big difference in this game. Villa took just over 1,000 fans.
    Here's a few pics.
By contrast, the last picture is from 1972 when the two teams met in the old Third Division. There was 12,000 on that day, 3,000 on last night. Quite depressing how things have changed.

Mansfield were due to play Birmingham City on saturday but the Police have cancelled it. There was arranged hooligan disorder that their intelligence had gathered and the Policing costs made the game economically unviable.

They play Leeds next week, might have another gander down there...

I think Keith Cassells and Geoff Pike scored. I don't remember it well, but I think I sat in the top corner you can see in the that stand on the right.

From the photo above that, I don't remember there not being a stand on the opposite side. Did they knock something down, or is that just my memory?

There was a cowshed-type construction on the other side when were there.

Incidentally, I'm pretty sure the stand you were in came from Kempton Park racecourse.

Yeah it was from a dog track or something down south, I forget exactly where.
They used to seat away fans in the end block when it was terracing behind either goal.

The old cowshed stand (bishop street) was wooden seating in the middle third with open terracing either side. There was talk about developing that side including demolishing those houses behind it. But that was pre-recession and seems to have been forgotten now.

The ground is big enough as it is anyway and charging £22 a home game next season certainly won't help swell their attendances.

That reminds me of following half a house along the road on an overnight bus journey from Hamilton to Wellington in NZ. They'd just chop a house in house in half, so it looked like two life-sized wendy houses, and towed them to a new location when they felt like a move. I hope they did something similar with Mansfield's ground. 'Yeah, I'm going to be late for work - I am stuck behind Field Mill on the M1.'
