You have to go off the call of the management and coaching staff and trust their judgment because at the end of the day they are the people who really know if he is or isn't good enough at this moment in time.

Regarding Darlow again it was a call the coaching staff made, one that was proven to be correct, but I am sure the loan spell(s) at Walsall were a massive help in making that call, one of the reasons I think this would be a good idea where Lascelles is concerned.

It's just when I read, we need to start him in the first team to aid his development. A youth player should be thrown in to the side to improve the team not the team should be used to improve a player.
If we're not going to play him or even have him in the match day squad, we should loan him to a league one club.

Completely agree. Love to see him at Notts, football league experience and a chance to come and train with our first squad once or twice a week.

Most definately. Even if he is on the fringes of the first team, a bit like Darlow was a loan deal with a recall option at anytime it to me makes it a win-win situation. We don't know if there has been any interest though but we don't appear to be sticking him in the shop window so to speak.

Let him go for a few months. We can always cal him back if needed. He needs games and experience.

Yeah he needs to go, good friends with Bamford so sounds like a good move. 3 month loan and then re-assess with an option to recall.

Defo should be loaned out for the benefit of his own career and us in the future. A highly rated talent that will get little to no air time now we're out of the Carling Cup and he's back to fifth choice CB.

MK dons seem like just the right club to help him develop as opposed to wasting in our reserves. He wasted enough last season.

Can be recalled after 28 days of the loan I think. We only have 4 games this month anyway don't we? Would be silly of us to be selfish and keep him when he is unlikely to feature.

Billy is utter shit when it comes to bringing in youth. He's going to waste Lascelles.

We recalled Darlow from Walsall last season, I think. All this loan business seems unnecessarily complicated to me, so I'm probably wrong.

Which youth players did he leave out in his previous tenure? I don't recall us having anyone particularly promising pushing through for a place. He's played Lascelles in the cup and now it looks like he's going on loan. What more do you want?

If Billy was that terrible, he'd have restricted Darlow to Capital One Cup games and instilled De Vries as his number 1.

He had no choice but to play him when Camp fucked off and fortunately he proved he was good enough. If De Vries was here in January, we'd never have seen Darlow make an appearance.

We've always had promising players, we just don't get to see them and they don't take the next step. Playing him ahead of Collins would be a nice start, he's earned a go.

I suppose that explains why it was Davies who gave Darlow his first team debut in a league game several years ago.

    Just before being sacked.

As for these promising players -which ones? None of them ever go on to anything anywhere else. Maybe they just were not good enough? I dont remember McClaren, Cotteril, McLeish or SOD bringing through any youth players?

Could just be that our academy has not actually been producing anything of the standard we need?

Because few of the ones who leave, seem to make it above League 2.

Lascelles need's to go out on loan and make a mark really

It seems to me to be a self-fulfilling prophecy, unless he is given the chances he won't improve and gain the experience he needs. It is easy to say he isn't ready when he hasn’t been given the chance. I have only seen him play at the Millwall game, but he looked solid at the back and scored the winning goal so a bit harsh not to give him a league start after that.

We sold Bamford because we neded the money. He has done okay at MK Dons but hasn't pulled up any trees yet. Beyond that who has left us and gone on to be succesful in the last 10 years? "We have always had talented players coming through" is a complete misnomer since Hart's days.

Again, he had to. Camp was injured, Darlow was the only other goalie we had in the club!

As usual, you can't say a bad word against Davies. He's never even given a kid a sniff. Even McCleary never got a go under him, as soon as Davies leaves he becomes a superstar.

I didn't say talented, i said promising. To my knowledge, I don't think Davies has given a single professional debut to a single player since he was appointed the first time. Could be wrong, but I can't think of any...

See I disagree. We could have got de Vries on an emergency loan when Billy arrived in February but he persevered with Darlow.

Billy isn't afraid to make bold decisions either. Take Jara for example, he'd have been my first choice RB following how impressive he was on loan. We signed Lichaj, banged him straight in the team and Jara can't get a sniff. Could have quite easily happened to Darlow as De Vries is a proven goalkeeper at this level who was between the sticks when Swansea booted us out of the play offs.
