Todayís Guardian has an interview with John Romero:

    JOHN GODDAM ROMERO!!

ĄI believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialismď

Never played it, but remember it well from the Mega CD promo video they gave away with Mean Machines one issue.

Was it actually any good? Most reviews kinda slated it, but I loved the cheesy vibe it had.

Finished the Outer Worlds, it’s pretty short actually (30 hours doing everything) but as said before loooads of dialog options and ways to play the game. It’s all the little back stories, the humour and how it all weaves together that give it that charm. It’s nothing mind blowing, basically a mini Fallout 3/NV.

Itís decent but they needed more variety, it seemed too linear unlike the peak in video games ďNew VegasĒ. Which I didnít finish outerworlds because I wanted to play New Vegas again lol. I was on the last mission too but obsidian did the same bloody thing where the game ends at the end and there isnít an open world, which is bollocks.

How'd you rank those 3 - Outer Worlds, FO 3, FO NV - in order?

Hard to say, they are pretty identical games. Outer Worlds is obviously a lot smaller/shorter and New Vegas is more fun and varied than 3.

    Finished Outer Worlds.

Was a bit of a dialogue slog at times but the writing was good which made it tolerable. Luckily my past experiences with Obsidian games have taught me to Spec into Charisma and Speech so i pretty much got all the ending outcomes i wanted.

    I'll give it a 7/10.

Did exactly the same On normal level it was too easy, was overpowered at the end.

From what I’ve read the game was made years ago and it’s a bit of a stop gap - now they are owned by Microsoft, they will be making a newer, bigger one.

When I read comments like these, they translate to me as "overhyped game which ticked all the right boxes, but as an experience was actually boring as fuck, and will be forgotten in no time at all. Probably panned a few years down the line"

    Think that's fair/unfair?

    I'm currently playing Arkham Knight.

Good, but it's ruined by the Batmobile. There, I said it.

Starts annoying, only gets more frequent & worse chap. Loved the first 3 games, even the much slated Origins, but the constant forced use of the Batmoble had me quit around halfway through.

Btw, should be starting Yakuza 0 in a week or so. Was it you that liked Beyond Two Souls too? Enjoyed that, some great moments.

Not really, there's a variety of ways of playing plus harder difficulty settings. There is the survival mode, as with New Vegas, where you have to constantly eat, drink, heal, sleep and can only sleep at base and can't fast travel.

I just haven't got around to that yet. I personally like to play a game through and take everything in, story, settings, characters etc first and then if I want more of a challenge, play on the hardest levels.

I find it a bit boring really. The Riddler races are really fun but the rest is a bit meh.

Best bits so far is the PTSD induced Joker bits. Makes me jump everytime.

Yeah, loved BTS. Yakuza 0 is brilliant, especially the karaoke.

Working out the Riddlers' riddles and grappling and gliding across the city was the most fun part

    Pretty much spot on.

Not worth the full price but definitely worth picking up for around £20 or so if you're into RPGs.

Playing the new Star Wars game at the moment and the first level of that gave me more excitement than the whole of Outer Worlds. It's all the good things about star wars in one neat Sekiro-lite package.

This is different tho, obsidian the makes of fallout (fuck Bethesda) made this game. I will agree that itís a 7/10. Pretty game, interesting story and alright gameplay overall. What I think the issue is that they made New Vegas, one of the best games ever made, from one of the best franchises ever made, so they had a lot of pressure.

And you know how Microsoft are, they ruin companies they own. Like the fuckers who made Banjo and Kazoie. I have to think that Outerworlds ended up as it did partly because of Microsoft.

You should still give it a go, think itís on Xbox game pass so give that a trial then cancel the membership before you have to pay the 15$ if you donít already have it. Itís definitely worth playing once.

You have two different budgets (surely highly for EA), different stories. Itíd be almost impossible for obsidian, know WHO they are, to make a game like the new Star Wars.

Think I might buy the new Star Wars, I need to test my 1080 out and all Iím doing is playing new Vegas and Classic WoW.

I’ve heard Star Wars is decent but a linear action adventure like Tomb Raider/Uncharted. Mostly just above average praise really.

That was one of the free games of the month on PSN wasn't it?

I'm glad I didn't pay any money for it as it did get tedious quite quickly.

Cheers kid. I don't do online gaming, so will likely pick it up on the cheap in a few months. Is it you that likes a good JRPG?

I agree, just annoying when you've got to put the Batmobile there. Step on this thing. Move that. Fire yourself up a ramp.

    Boring.

The PTSD-Joker stuff is phenomenal, but it's not really moved on since Asylum. The best Batman easily.

Yeah Arkham Asylum was brilliant, the combat especially was nice and snappy.

I paid £1 for gamepass and already played Outer Worlds, Life is Strange 2, What Remains of Edith Finch and downloaded Gears 5 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider to play when I can. Can’t grumble at that. Think it’s only £12 anyway.

Next gen I would love an open world/RPG Star Wars game that takes the best of games like GTA, Assassins Creed, Batman, Tomb Raider, Witcher etc. That would be a dream.

I love jrpgs, didn't like Persona though, it was overly repetitive.
