Pro evo 5 and 6 were the peak of those games. I spent hours creating the proper kits and the gameplay itself was the most enjoyable of any football game I've played. If fifa had the customisation options those games had and paid actual attention to single player modes (mainly career) they might have a decent game on their hands.

I only buy fifa now once every 3 years as it's essentially the same game reproduced year after year as they have the monopoly of the market

UT and it's wanking over the "greatest players" shit and the fact seasons was/is full of bitches who cancel when you score means I only really ever played career and you're right, it's the same and it wasn't great five years ago. I had emails from FIFA as I played career a lot at times but all the feedback seemed ignored because they wanked over UT.

I've still only got 19 and don't think I'll be buying another. It's a shame, i really like football games (not sounding big headed but I've only ever lost a handfull of games) I just can't be doing with the shit any more. Still it's fun beating Barcelona etc with Forest online

Oh and PES 6 remains the pinnacle of football gameplay. You had to work at it, moving the ball and opposition around, rather than just hold down run and square the ball or go through the trick list to get free.

I hate that about FIFA... kids just mashing the controller like its street fighter 2 to pull off skill moves, that's not football.... in all honesty a standard game of real life football even at peak level is won by a few pieces of genuine skill and that's where PES 6 stood out.

Anyone ever play 'This is Football' on the PS1? That was my favourite football game of that era.

Only the ones on ps2 TIF 2002/3 etc. Quite like them but the dribbling dynamics were ridiculous, like it was on a laggy band

I have no idea why FIFA hasn't introduced an online career mode like FM has. Be nice to start a career mode with 2 of your mates with a league two team and then race to see who wins the premiership first. The games when you play eachother would be ace too

One of my lockdown projects was trying to get my old N64 working again. It's been sat in the TV cabinet for years gathering dust so I finally got around to opening it up and checking it, I expected an absolute mess but turns out it was completely fine, just filthy so I cleaned it up with some isopropyl and put it back together again. Next part was getting it to work on a modern TV, thankfully the TV has still got analogue tuning so I managed to find the right channel after some trial and error and boom International Superstar Soccer 98, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Banjo-Kazooie and more all working perfectly, not a single cart broken.

I also picked up FIFA 20 for PC on sale from somewhere like CDKeys. I usually get FIFA on console but been playing it less and less over the last few years, become so stale and boring so I decided to get it on PC and try playing it modded (never really played online anyway so not an issue for me). There's a decent modding scene for FIFA, nothing compared to games like the Witcher 3 and Skyrim etc. but not bad, a few good really good mods that tweak the AI and make the game a bit more realistic and more difficult without making the AI too robotic. But the really impressive stuff is the graphical mods, ones that make the pitches and stadiums look more realistic but also a lot of facemakers who make faces for the generic shit ones FIFA use.

    e.g. Brice Samba:

Not many Forest players been made, only really found Samba and Cash so far but if I find the free time I might try and learn how to do it myself.

Started playing Greedfall, had to stop, it seems like a game from a previous generation and the story seems so weak.

Playing Last of Us Part 2 now and loving it so far.

Holiday refund came through so treated myself to the Mafia trilogy. Gonna wait until the 1st one is out though and play them in order.

Fallout 76 has just come on gamepass so might actually play it now it sounds like it has some content

Want to play the new F1 but it's a birthday gift apparently. It's like being 12 again.

I like the difficulty, I started on 19 with ABS and TC and upped the AI till I have to be bang on, then removed assists. I like that I have to work at it. I was winning races with Williams in my first few races.

I’ve been playing 19 too but turn traction control off and I find it a bit ott. The steering seems to be all or nothing. Using a standard and battered controller probably doesn’t help.

It’s satisfying when you pull off a near perfect lap though.

Looks good, hearing good things too.

Hope it's not an empty, Witcher 3 type open world & there's some substance to it instead.

They had some feedback from the actual drivers that said IRL it's more like TC on medium, theres a lot more brake "feel" before lockup and ERS is a lot less complicated, seemingly they've listened and made 20 better.

I’ve always found traction control annoying on games. You’re using a controller with a trigger for an accelerater it’s pretty hard to accelerate smoothly, you just end up overcooking it and with TC off the cars go wildly out of control... clearly that’s no fun.
I do like the braking on 19, think that’s decent.

Tried playing online last night. First fucking corner two cars collide and spin in front of me, my front wheel comes off... they carry on and I’m out the race Then another time I got hit in the back, spun off and back onto the track, taking someone else out - drive through penalty to me. What the fuck. This is why I avoid online gaming I’m not good enough to avoid pricks.
