Default LTLF Exclusive- Alan Rodgers Interview

As promised, the full interview with Alan Rodgers, ex Nottingham Forest left back.

Q: Who are the best and worst players you played with?
The worst was patrachi the little right Wing Italian. Total disgrace. Never tried at all for the club. Scot gemmel was great to play with always there to help you out for a pass. Me and Bart man as well linked up great together. Although I done all his running

Q:Who did you socialise most with at Forest? Do you still socialise with them now?
I used to socialize with big norm a lot then Dave Jono. Both great lads

Q:Who was the most unusual personality you have come across in football?
Most unusual was joe kineaer. Weirdo. Big Ron mental as well. But like Ron a lot

Q:What really happened at the end of your time at Forest the 2nd time?
What happened at forest was megson tried to sign me at WBA I turned him down. His first words to me at forest was I will ruin you career.I got banned for the changing room with 3 other players. Weren't allowed in the car park on match days and then put on garden leave. Not allowed near the ground. For absolute no reason. Was a bad time to be honest.

Q:Who was your favourite and least favourite managers and why?
Harry was by far the best manager. Great all round and megson was a total joke with no clue about football. Just how far to kick it up field

    Q:Biggest regret and why?
Biggest regret was leaving forest never wanted to join Leicester and never should of.

Q:You were clearly injured against Gillingham but tried to carry on before your knee completley went, was that your decision or Platts?
It was my decision to stay on against gillingham. Bit the physio at the time was a young lad and rushed me back far to quick. Should of been out 9 months played after 5. Never was right and still now I have really bad problems with my knee. For that I blame platty putting pressure on the physio to get me fit.

In his defence I didn't realise that direct messages on twitter were still subject to 140 characters so that probably restricted him to an extent

Good interview Porks. Always prefer it when footballers talk honestly rather than this media trained nonsense

Cheers and ye I couldn't agree more, 'taking it one game at a time ' etc does get fucking tiresome. He did actually miss two of the best questions whether on purpose or not I don't know, doubt it was on purpose. I also asked Q:What did you and the other players think when PVH went on strike? and Q: What do you make of Kinnear at Newcastle?

Retired players are far more interesting than current players.

If your DM-ing them on Twitter could be worth asking if there is a regular email address you could send the questions to so you avoid the 140 characters rule

I respect that he's prepared to answer questions, but those answers don't lessen the hate any. One of the (surprisingly few) players who's name alone gets me angry.

Find it amazing that he had the nerve to call out someone else for not trying given how he performed in the 04/05 season - including for several months before Megson even arrived at the club.

Also, I don't believe the "Megson had an agenda from day 1" angle, his version of events doesn't match up with the time line of what actually happened at the time. When Megson came in, one of the first things he did was to restore Rogers to his favoured position of Left Back (Kinnear or Harford had moved him to Midfield and put Gregor Robertson at LB). He then kept starting him game after awful game for about 2 months before finally dropping him onc. The subsequent banishment of Rogers/Johnson/James that he mentions didn't actually happen until the summer after we'd been relegated (I think the 4th man, Impey, might have been during the season). Rogers started the majority of games in that season, under 3 different managers, maybe he should look in the mirror.

And now I hate him even more that I've just relived all that shit.

If what incident says is true, then I guess that paints a different picture.

Either way, thanks for doing the interview, both Porks and Rogers. Wherever the truth falls, it's always interesting to get comment from the people who once did well for us. I'd be delighted to hear comment from all our ex players...even Rosario and Selenzi. They've all been part of a mostly $hitty journey and it's interesting to hear different views.

Interviews I'd love to read: Collymore and Alf-Inge Håland. Got fond memories of both.

For what it's worth, I know a footballer that turned Megson down at WBA and was still asked to join Forest under Megson. He turned him down again, but given he was asked a second time I wonder if there is more to the 'I turned him down' story than is being said?

Thanks for organising Porks. Interesting. Please do some more if you can.

I still think Alan Rogers is a complete and utter total **** though and always will.

There are 2 sides to every story.
Where is the corroborating evidence to support Rogers' stream of invective.
While the "interview" was interesting, I don't think it was informative, other than to give an indication as to why Rogers has never made it as a media commentator.

    The facts:

Megson joined on Jan 10th, and first took full charge for the Brighton game on Jan 22nd. It took him 7 games to finally drop Rogers - after the abysmal 6-0 loss at Ipswich.

never disliked the lad and he got bad stick of some fans and he didnt want to leave Forest (unlike some "heroes") Rodgers was a bit hot-headed against refs some needless bookings. But bear in mind he had to try to fill Psychos place when he came

Whilst you can't blame anyone for being depressed about their football under Megson, there are ways to go about it. If you're frozen out of the side you turn up for training every day 10 minutes early and work your bollocks off to show you're still ready to be called upon, after all you're still getting paid, and you never know you could be called upon at any time.

Megson might have a dreadful football philosophy, but I can't imagine he literally walked in the door and froze Rogers out without some sign of disruption or unprofessionalism either at Forest or during whatever incident happened when he was at West Brom.

In Rogers defence though, he never deserved the stick he took for going to Leicester. It was all about us being in debt and the A block sure gave him abuse to say 'we only hate Derby'. It was way over the top, he clearly didn't want to go.
